As a few of my previous post indicated I traded an 02 CC 6.0l for an 05 CC 8.1l. I pull a 28' travel trailer, with a reese friction sway/weight distribution hitch. I also have a Prodigy Brake controller. Trailer goes 6500 dry with cargo carring capacity of 2200 lbs.

Now I have 2 issues to work out. I thought the trucks we essentially the same stat wise so I am suprised to find that when I hook my trailer up and place the sway/weight dist. arms in place there is no weight on them. The delaer set my hitch up for me when we bought the the trailer so I have never set one up before, so here is my plan of attack, please comment

1. Place trailer on level ground and level it front to back using the frame to ground as a refference.

2. Back the truck up to the tounge and adjust ball height to about 2" above the tounge of the trailer.

3. Hook up the trailer to the ball and place the weight dist. arms with moderate tension.

Now my second issue in my brake controller:

I unplugged it out of my 02's panel left of the brake pedal and plugged it into the same on my 05. Now when I try to set up my controller no go. I have tried the set up process tekoshna has on there web site but cnannot get it to level, the green light stays green and never turns to red, except when I mannually move the slider. Any help would be great thanks, Jesse

Well I can help with the brake issue the coonections are not the same from a 02 to an 05 you need to change the position of a couple wires I am unsure which ones but if I find it I will pass it on

There is one wire that moved in the truck's connector between 2003 and 2004. My suggestion: go to your local trailer supply place and buy the Tekonsha pigtail cable for '04+ GM trucks. Plugs right in between your Prodigy and your truck.

BTW, I just went through the exact same process two weeks ago. Picked up an '04 Suburban 2500 with the 8.1L, I tow an 8,000 pound 24' car trailer. I had to buy the new cable for my Prodigy.

On the WD hitch set up, I would have to agree with what Burbman has suggested. You want this right as it will make a tremendous difference in your towing safety and comfort. If all is right when you are done, you wil have no more than a 1/4" difference in the compression between the front and rear. Ideally, the front and rear would compress the same when you are fully hooked up. However, I think you will see that some additional compression in the rear over the fron is acceptable.

I bet I reset my Equal I Zer 4 times after I got it home from the dealer. Once I got it right, I could tell the difference in the way my entire rig handles.

Seems like I would prefer the trailer be level if not the tongue of the trailer pointed a smidge downward. Are you starting the ball out 2" above level for squatting?

What ever happend to the days of "Aah hell, just hook it up and go..." Now we are all worried about weight limits and ratings, big brakes, weight distribution, sway control, and I need a 1 ton to pull my John Boat... Wah, Wah, Wah.

BTW, does anyone know the RIGHT answer for what to do with the combination of load-levelling bars and autoride suspension? This is discussed in one of those threads on the rv.net forum but without a conclusion.

GM does have a TSB on the subject:

TSB #02095: "OWNERS MAY INQUIRE ABOUT THE PROPER SETUP FOR A WEIGHT DISTRIBUTING HITCH ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH RPO Z55 AUTO RIDE SUSPENSION."

How can I find the text of this bulletin without scheduling a service appointment at the dealer?
