265/75 R16

I just got a set of BFG's All Terrain tires, they are 265/75 R16's and I was wondering how many psi's you guys fill these tires with. They came with 35 psi from discount tire, Thanks.

That would be what GM recommends. I typically run about 5 PSI less in the rear compared to the front when the truck is UNLOADED. LOADED I run them equal. If I was really inclined I would get more specific with the front having 20% more air pressure than the rear when unloaded because weight distribution is 60% front, 40% rear, so then the rear could have 20% less... or save yourself all the trouble and run the recommended pressure all the way around. Rotate the tires often, they'll last ALOT longer.

At the 35 psi mark I noticed a drop in fuel economy, so I took a gamble and ramped it up to 40. Assuming I rotate every other oil change will the extra 5 psi wear out my tires quicker?

Well 40 psi gave me back my mileage plus some, but someone else has to be running 265's and can tell me what the run theirs at.

I have the exact tire and run 45 in the front and 40 in the back. This is my second set of the BFG's. I got almost 60,000 miles on the first set.

They are expensive but are well worth it.

Did you notice any gain in fuel economy? I really want to get my computer recalibrated for the bigger tire size but that'll have to wait a week or so. I just want a hint at the actual change in mileage? 45 psi seems like a lot, I'm hesitant to fill them so much. Anybody get more than 60,000 miles out of these tires, and if so at what psi?

You know my door sticker says 80psi on all four tires !

I really don't know about any gain in mileage.....I only get about 12 mpg no matter what I do.

The Diablo Preadator tuner will let you recalibrate the computer for the bigger tires.

80psi?!?!?!? :flag:

Yeah I don't know much but I do know that 80 psi is way to much. I've been looking at my uncalibrated gas mileage for the last couple of tanks and its averaged out to about 17.6-17.7. So hopefully that means that my calibrated mpg is over 18, which is an improvement. All with 40 psi all around.

That's because you have a 3/4 ton truck. You don't actually have to run 80 psi unless you tow/haul close to maximum weights...I run my 285/75r16 BFGs at about 45 to 50 and I haul a lot of heavy stuff, pull a trailer often too.

It also depends on if you use a "P" tire or "LT" they both have different max tire pressures therefore resulting in you using different tire pressures. I assume that you have "P" or passenger tires since you have a half-ton. Max psi is 44 iirc. I run 40 all around on mine and if I put alot in the bed all tires go to max psi.

Hello,

Please look at the sidewall of your tire before inflating beyond 35#. Some tires are limited to 35# and increasing that can result in premature catastrophic failure on hard impacts like a hole in the road. Some trucks come equipped with load range E tires (10 ply rating) and they can be inflated to 80#.
