Programming Questions

OK so I took a small trip this weeked with my truck all highway going about 80 and it ran at 2500 rpm. I got 13 MPG and I know I get about 11 city which to me seems low. My first question is has to do with programming it. When I did I used the superchip programmer and did the 87 octane tune. Took my 1-2 shift points all the way up 3-4 half way past stock and 5-6 at stock. All of the shift hardnesses are all the way up. Rev limiter off and stock rear end (which will be what my other question is about).Does that seem like a good way to set it up for strictly gas mileage or are you guys doing something else. Ok and the other thing is the truck is a 02 1500 HD CREW 6.0 I read that it should be a 3.73 rear end but when I read the rpo codes @ http://www.lonestarthunder.com/m_rpo.php it says it has the 4.10. So whats up with that is it possible that I have the 4.10 and would having the 3.73 be better on gas?

What a great way to get answers, flip out and tell everyone off. I believe Indy answered your questions, yes you could have 4.10 gears, and yes 3.73 would have been better for mileage. I don't know for sure on the programming, but moving the shift points up to make the truck rev up more doesn't seem quite right to get mileage.

I have the Superchips 2815 too. Make sure you go online with it and get the updated flashes for it. With the 87 tune, my 2007 with 5.3L lost about 1 mpg on the highway. Installed the 91 TOW program and gained back the 1 mpg loss, plus a 1/2 mpg to boot. I've ran the tow tune with 91, 89, and 87 and get the same mileage and power with any grade gas.. No noticeable PING or spark knock either. So I run the 91 TOW program with 87 octane. If I do go to tow, I will probably either put 89 or 91 in it to be on the safe side. I also tried the 91 performance tune with 87 octane and it pinged like a bitch, so shut the truck off and reloaded the 91 tow.

Obviously Superships has the 87 tune all screwed up. I've seen about 5 people now reporting mileage losses with the 87 tune. Both on 6.0 trucks and the 5.3's. I also gained NO noticeable power with the 87 tune.

The 91 tow tune must not be as agressive as the 91 performance, but they got something right with it, because it doesn't suffer the mileage loss.

On the gears, just tell the superships your gears are STOCK, and the unit will take care of it for you. It reads your OEM flash, stores the variables, then writes them along with the superchips tune to the PCM.

You may also try using the SuperChips settings on the complete tune. All of their settings are at 50% / in the middle.

If you need any more help, goto www.flashpaq.com and use the Superchips forums.
