Infinity Replacement Door Speakers

Here's my deal:

 

I'm looking to replace the four door speakers in my '02 non-bose Suburban with stock head unit. Bsed upon recommendations on the site, I was going to replace them with the Infinity Reference 6012i. However, it seems most places are closing out the 6012i, and list the 6022i as the speaker for the 'Burb. From what I can gather, the difference is the 6012i is (was??) a 4 ohm speaker, whereas the 6022i is a 2 ohm speaker. Any thoughts on whether the 2 ohm will work, or should I be putting in a 4 ohm speaker, or does it make one dang bit of difference??

 

Also, I'm getting some conflicting information as to whether I need the regular depth "i" series or the shallow "si" series. Any idea if the regular depth speaker fits, or if I do in fact need the shallow speaker?

the stocker basic radio is a 4 ohm unit. the typical bose replacement units are 2 ohm

 

go with the 4 ohm units and you'll be fine. You may notice though that, while the bass response is crisper, and the overall volume is similar - there will be a little less of it. infinity's crave power, and the stock deck just ain't got it.

 

regular depth series will be just fine. compared to an import - our doors are cavernous

 

 

I dug and dug with speakers for a bit and ended up with kenwood excelon components in my '06 similar thing there too - better, tighter bass and clearer highs, but overall a decrease in sound output. this summer I am planning to get a PAC line output converter and run a external amp. I know the sound guru's are probably gonna be groaning over this - but then again it's a truck. it's not an opera theater. I don't need 120db at 0.00006%thd.

I agree about the Infinity's craving power.

 

Might I suggest that you consult with somebody at Crutchfield. They're very knowledgeable and their prices are good too!

You'll need to stay with 4 ohm speakers.

Considering you are still with the stock head you should probalby go with coaxials. Components, while more clear, also require much more power than your head will provide (as Must Go Faster said) and honestly, your head won't produce sound good enough to warrant "Reference" level speakers from any manufacturer. As GRB60 said, go to Crutchfield.com and they will recommend direct fit speakers for your truck AND head unit.
