Changing My Oil, How Many Quarts?

Recommended Posts

I'm just about ready to change the oil in my 2005 silverado with a 5.3. Can anyone tell me how many quarts this holds. I use normal Quaker State on my other truck and have 228,000 and still running good. Any suggestions as to what oil to use in my silverado?

I have a 5.3 and I usually put about a hair over 6 quarts..but with that many miles..I say go away from quackerstate .... MOBIL ONE :)

My silverado only has 100,000 miles on it. the s-10 I have has 228,000 on it. What are the advantages of mobil 1. Or is it just your preference?

I use Royal purple in my truck....but if you've gone 228K on the Q...I'd say stay with the Q...seems like its working fine for you. Synthetics have a higher viscosity index and better for cold startups. They resist flash off and usually are able to be kept in use for extended periods between oil changes. (5000 miles or so). Also synthetics help the environment as they are made in a lab, not from refining.

My moms ex-boyfriend had a car with over 500k KM on it, he used Q from day one, and drove it like it was stolen. He sold it with just over 550K on the odo, and it was still going strong, no oil smoke or knocks what so ever. I think as long as you change your oil on time all the time you will be fine, as long as you use something thats a good brand.

I prefer to use synthetics personally. But you have obviously proved that you can go over 200K without them.
