Need Some Help W/ A Dealership.

OK, so my new truck was to be transferred to the dealership today from another dealer, and I got "the call".

Salesman - Mr. T, the dealership called me and told me that your truck has 3000 miles on it.

Me - :D:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

What do I ask for? This is NO LONGER A NEW TRUCK! I will still get the financing and my warranty will start @ whatever mileage I pick the truck up at.

I don't mind that it has some miles on it (I drive about 23K a year) but they are going to have to make it worth my time & $$ to get me to take this one.

So, what would you do?

Where did they bring it from? From the other side of the country? If it is the one you want, I would definately want some compensation. If your not under some sort of obligation, dont take the truck.

I hope you are joking. I wouldn't even think about buying that truck. I don't care what they say about warranty start date. You are buying a USED VEHICLE. Tell them to forget it and go to a different dealer!

I would only buy the truck if it was one I was looking at for a while, and had a hard time finding somewhere else. Otherwise, if it was just a case of the truck wasn't at the dealership you were at, I'd take my business elsewere. BTW what truck was it?

Treat it like a Demonstrator and start negotiations at about $1K under Invoice plus all current incentives, plus reasonable compensation per mile for the miles on the Odometer.

I've bought several Demonstrators (one already had 5K miles on it) and never had a problem with it. Miles aren't as important as the in-service date. Like you said, they can start the mileage portion of the warranty at the current mileage. But, if it was in for service for anything while in the dealer's possession, then the date it was serviced is the in-service date, and the 3 year warranty started at that date! If it's not been in for service, then the in-service date should reflect the date you take delivery. So, be sure to sak about that first! If you're getting the full 3 yr/36K miles then you're covered (warranty wise), if not be sure to deduct for the lost portion of the warranty (if you decide to take that truck). If the dealership is interested in keeping you as a customer, then they should be willing to deal! Good luck and keep us posted!

so they drove it all the way from alaska, if they dont give you something like 3000 miles added to your warentee or a reduction in price, say no thanks I will get a different one.

If I decided to take it (prob. wouldn't) there wouldn't be an or between the 3000 miles added and a reduction.

Dealer probably used it as his own vehicle, they do it all the time, it is now a used vehicle. Was it in an accident? you will never know, did he let his kid drive it around abusing it? Again you will never know. You are rolling the dice on this deal.

find out the charge per mile on leased vehicles, knock that off the sticker, and start the warranty from the day/odometer readeing you pick it up. otherwise find another dealer.

on second thought. if you have the option, I'd get another dealer anyway - if these guys are this annoying when you BUY it - think about how tough it will be to fix it....

The way i see it is like this. When you buy a new vehicle the value of that truck drops about 3k the second it leaves the dealership, so i would accept no less than that amount off the already negotiated price. nuff said.

Walk away or tell them 4,000 dollars at the minimum off the price you initially agreed to, and also some kind of proof this has never been in a accident or was apart of any lemon buy back and get it on paper with the gm's signature! They will most likely want to deal seeing as they would probably be stuck with a used truck as the swap has already been made with the other dealer.

That's the best summary I've read yet. Thanks guys!

I would not accept that vehicle under any circumstances. If that vehicle was a "demo" used by salesman or a manager you can be pretty sure those 3K were not easy miles. I have ridden in demo vehicles with salesman before and most don't mind ragging the sh*t out of them since they don't own them and will never have to make a payment. I would pass on it for the peace of mind alone. Just my $.02.
