My buddy has an 05 1500HD with 3.73s. He bought a 28 ft 5th wheel after having the salesman tell him the truck could pull it.

After looking at the GCWR for the truck which is 14,000 pounds and the truck GVWR which is 8600 pounds according to the Chevy towing guide and looking at the weight of the trailer (8000 pounds dry and 10,800 GVWR) I told him he has too much trailer for the truck.

What kind of weights are you pulling with your 1500HDs? These trucks can carry 2700-ish pounds of payload and have higher GAWRs but the 14000 GCWR is weak IMO. You can get a halfton with 4.10s and get the same 14000 GCWR.

IMO he should be fine as long as he doesn't try any dukes of hazzard type of sht. just leave your self some reaction space between you and the car in front of you and in my experience pulling all steel horse trailers with 1500 with the 4.6s you should be fine.

he should be fine, we use a 02 2500HD to pull about 13K on a gooseneck,

I reccommend trailer brakes!. Dont think you can run out and get a 1/2 ton to do the same thing just because the numbers say its rated for it.
