well i have a bully dog hand held tuner and i am kinda wondering if the transmission life is limited due to excessive clutch wear or something like that. because we all have firmer shifting in our trucks it worries me. has anyone had premature tranny failures when they have there truck chipped. i guess im kind of trying to compare so if you could list your truck, year, type of tuner, how long your tranny has lasted, driving habbits and how long your truck has been chipped. thanks

Mine just rolled over to 101,000 but still goin pretty strong on the stock components. If you mod and put more power to the clutches and other trans components, your gunna shorten the life of them.

Increased line pressure for shifting is actually good for the clutches because its less time the clutches are spending "not engaged". But its the power that goes along with it that kills components. Its all driving habit really; the more you peel wheels at every stop light just to beat that ricer kid then the more wear you put on your tranny.

You can chip your car, truck, and Honda Insight but if you only rip into into it every once in a while then stock components will last a long time. But I would imagine if your towing a 10k lb trailer and then you peel wheels at a stoplight its a pretty good bet that you'll send shredded tranny parts everywhere.

The reason GM elected to have its line pressure where its at is simply for ride quality. A lot of folks dont want a truck that snaps their neck into the back seat when shifting into second. You can mod all day but you have to drive it in moderation, and seriously, who does that?

The 4l60e is only rated to 340 lb. ft. of torque. How much are the new 5.3 liters putting out stock 330? So adding power will be getting pretty close to te transmissions rating any ways.

Where did you hear 340 lb ft? I have always heard alot more for the 4l60. They put it in the LS1 f-body's and those are 350 ft. lb.

And GM has opted to replace 4L60 with the 4L65 in V8 applications. Thats got to tell you something (besides the 25 years of highly variable performance behind a strong engine).

Yes some people have gone years without any trouble. Other people gone through a bunch.

I got about 140K out of my stock trans. The only tuning was increasing line pressure for firmer shifts. I had an intake, cat-back, and hypertech for most of that 140K and I tow regularly and drive ina spirited manner. Since the built trans, I have a Jesse(wait4me) performance tune with all torque management removed, same bolt-ons (except for hypertech which is gone) and I have almost 45K with no problems.

The funny part is that the 4L70E in the TBSS is rated for 400 lbft.

Can anyone guess how much torque the LS2 in the TBSS is putting out? ;)

The 4L60E in my 2000 Z28 lived well behind a 350 RWHP 5.7. Had a large tranny cooler, B & M deep pan and a 3500 Yank stall. I changed the fluid every 10000 miles, never a problem, even with many a burnout

So, what have they BEEN putting behind their V8's? Millions of 4L60E's on the road with no problems.

Isn't the torque management feature to reduce torque during shifts? If you disable it it wouldn't it make sense that you would shorten tranny life?
