Second Battery Space

Anyones truck come with the second battery?How was it wired from the factory?

I would like to know where they found room to put one?

 

I think that I saw somthing in the manual about the wiring.

I am planning on putting in one of those plastic battery boxes used in boats that straps down and has a cover. Then I can use it as a storage box for a tow strap, a few tools, etc. May as well use every bit of storage space available, right?

i have thought about one of those plastic boxes as well in my second battery spot .. good place for jumper cables and a few other odds-n-ends ...

Why did they move it (battery) anyways? Now you have to take off that small stabilizer arm under the hood to get the battery out.

 

But putting a marine box for tools such as straps and whatever is a good idea.

In theory, that makes sense, but the only trucks that actually have the 2nd battery are Diesels and gassers with snow plow prep pkgs.

The 1st/standard battery, is the one monted near the fire wall on the passenger side. In a frontal collision this battery will be less likely to be knocked loose, busted, disconnected (in theory ) and still be able to power the Onstar system. The second battery is simply to provide additonal reserve power, and that is why it is on Diesels and Plow Prep package.

So since my 2006 1500 has the snow plow prep package, I can have two batteries(one battery and a storage box)? I sure haven't seen two under there...but I could be wrong. I'll have to check.

On the 2007 GMT-900 there are two battery trays. Onei s in use (duh) the other is empty, with the possiblity of either adding another battery (apparently included on diesels and plow prep package) or adding an aftermarket battery/storage box.

 

Your truck (GMT-800) may not have a second battery (Depends on what the plow prep package included a second battery at that time) or tray for that matter, but the whole get up is available from GM.

The "second" battery location for 99-06(07classic) is near the firewall on the passenger side and unless factory optioned there is no tray mounted. There are posting somewhere with all the factory part numbers for the tray, relay, isolator and harness.

 

It is for diesel or the auxillary power option for camper/trailer.

 

It's been used, as mentioned for storage and locating the air pump for bags etc.

it's just a basic plastic battery box...pep boys, autozone, and I think Wally's Mega-Lo mart has them.

 

They are all over the place here in the desert....supposedly Arizona has a fairly high per capita boat ownership.

The snow plow prep package (RPO Code VYU) does not include a 2nd battery,It should but it dosen't,It must be ordered as a seperate option (RPO Code TP2)

If I was to add a second battery for the stereo and amps, what else would I need to add so the battery would charge off the alternator.
