Folding Hard Tonneau Options

Anyone have any thoughts or comments on folding hard tonneau covers? I'm looking to get something to put on the new truck when she comes in. I see some that appear to latch down and do not have key locks on them, while others do. Obviously without locks on top, you'd have to have a locking tailgate which I believe the new trucks have. If I had the choice, I'd rather have the additional security of locks on the cover, and be able to open the cover without having to unlock and open the tailgate. I think the Fold-A-Cover fits this scenario the best, but I've also been considering a Bakflip, Advance, and Extang Solid Fold. Anyone have any of them and/or can share some thoughts/experience? Thanks.

I looking at installing a hard folding tonneau cover too. After reading the many posts here, I am leaning towards the Fold A Cover, but I want to check it out first at a local dealer. I am also going with the Line X spray on bedliner, but I can’t decide if I should spray the bed rails or not. What are the pros and cons of having Line X sprayed on the bed rails?

Hey buddy, I had the Fold-A-Cover on my 05 Silverado. Its an excellent cover. The fact its hard and foldable makes it very unique. I am actually thinking about getting it again for my new truck as well. I think for the new trucks they have a new G4Elite Fold-A-Cover...pretty much the same cover just newer and updated alittle. I know on the G4Elite the lock is different which is a good thing, I found the lock on my last one abit cheesy. It worked but I think they could of come up with a better design. My parents actually had one on there 96 chevy. It was a fold-a-cover and the lock was awesome, I don't know why they ever changed it. I am also thinking about the Undercover tonneau cover. Its one piece hard cover, but it only weighs 58lbs and very easy and quick to remove. Thats just another option. Those 2 would be my choice. Anyway I hope this was alittle help to you. Hey, If I were you don't think twice about not spraying your rails. They scratch so easy by just leaning and reaching over the bed. I have mine done and they did and excellent job. I wish GM had the plastic railing on the new trucks like they did on the classic body style ones. I don't think there are any cons of having it done. If you are putting a cover on your truck your rails will scratch with out them done. I am pretty sure any cover or cap will fit on over the spray rails as well. Not to mention it just looks great with them sprayed. Hope that helps.

I'd like to jump in here....

I also want a hard cover but most seem to be poorly engineered or not very attractive. I want something slick... why is that so hard? Next door neighbor has BakFlip folding cover but it is coming apart after 6 months and the rubber on the sides looks like it came off of a hardware store shelf. It leaks pretty bad in the rain also.

I would like to see the Extang solid fold on a truck. It looks promising on www.extang.com. Does anybody know anything about it? Better yet does anybody have one or some pictures on their truck?

Thanks guys. So far the Fold-A-Cover is what I'm leaning towards. It's more coin than the others, but definitely seemed well-designed on the little demo display they had at the local shop. It also has locks on it, and as mentioned above, they have the updated G4 version. Someone here had mentioned the Peragon retractable cover before. That is pretty slick looking, but again, I was hoping to get something that locked itself without relying on the tailgate for sole security. Keep the thoughts coming.

Also, I'm going with a spray-in liner as I did on the 99. On the 99 I went under the rails, I definitely want protection over the rails this time around. I was thinking of going with some caps- they just adhere with 3m tape correct? Opinion time yet again, go with the caps or just skip them and get the spray over the rails? I'm hoping to hang on to this truck longer than I have with blue.

I'm interested in looking at both now. I'm not considering the BakFlip anymore but I'd sure like to hear about the Extang Solid Fold and the Fold A Cover. I sure would like to hear from any owners of either. I had some black plastic bedcaps made by Wade on one of my trucks and they worked out great. They were double sided taped down but they never moved.

Haven't messed with the new Extang yet, but thier stuff is usually pretty nice.

In my opinion, the Bak Flip is a piece of junk. Seems pretty flimsy...

I was on the extang site and saw the trifecta, and it looks nice, but does anyone know of a hard that folds or removes. In other words basically one a la Avalanche?
