Food For Thought....6.0 To 6.6

I can get a wrecked 2005 2500HD 4wd with the duramax and allison with 80k on it for 8000. I have a 2001 2500HD 4wd, basically the same truck but its a 6.0. I was wondering if it would be fairly "easy" as in plug and play to do that swap? I know I would need a new instrument cluster but is that it?

There is a lot of things you would have to change on your truck to do it. For starters you would need motor mounts, different exhaust, different ecu, change the front suspension because the duramax weighs 836 lbs. versus.. i don't know 550 lbs for the small block and a bunch of stuff with the tranny, so I would say if you want a duramax bad enough just trade your truck for a good used one and spare your self of all the little problems that will come up.

Just my opinion.

Might be easier to swap your truck on to the diesel. (Fix the diesel truck...)

Yeah depending on the severity of the diesel's condition I would suggest the same, I am sure you could get it done eventually. Or do as someone else said and put the money towards a diesel with your truck on trade.

Going from a gas to a diesel is possible, I know of a guy who did a 4.0L jeep to a diesel and I know of another guy who plans on doing it and it is not a small job.

But if you have the time and space, I would give myself a month to do the project then go for it and take some pictures along the way. Its not entirely impossible.

If the frame wasnt all hell on that duramax i would just set my cab and bed onto that one but it go plowed hard on the passenger side and bent it would all have to be taken off that truck and put onto mine. I just love my truck and could stand the thought of any other prick driving it. I really want a diesel thought because I live right here in the foothills of north carolina and Im in the mountians a lot with a trailer and that 6.0 is a good one but doesnt have the grunt a duramax would pulling.

If i could find a duramax that had been wrecked and was repairable I would go that route. Anybody got any leads?? Cummins is alright too just not going to buy a powerstroke.

If I'm thinking right, you'd have to strip all the fuel system, the electrical with gauges, and transmission system, oh and new exhaust. If I remember the diesel option was around 6k, trading in your truck and using the 8k to get a new truck might not be a bad ideal. esp since factory would take care all the glitches that may come up.

I'm not one to tell others "NO".

BUT... think about how much it would cost you to do the swap...

Wrecked truck + everything else you need + your truck

By the time everything is done you would be probably paying as much for that swap as you would if you traded in your gas for a used diesel, if not more.

What's wrong with the 6.0L anyway?! :D
