Electrical Problem With Steering Wheel Audio Controls

I have just noticed that my audio controls on my steering wheel are working sometimes, and others they will not do anything.

The car is a 2003 Suburban LT 5.3 4x4 with the Bose Stereo and fully loaded. Sometimes the volume and Seak will work, other times they will not. I have just noticed this.

Now I have an Airbag light that has come on, it was coming on and off depending on how I turned or something, it would work, then it would not work. I told the dealer not to replace it as the part alone was around 400 and then 200 for labor. Could these two items have anything to do with each other, as they are both in the Steering column? Also, all of the buttons on the Steering wheel for the DIC, work fine no problems. So its only the Controls for the Audio.

Does anyone have any clue where I should start looking to figure this out, or which wiring harness might be coming loose?

GM issued a TSB on an intermittent wiring harness problem. Harness is getting pinched, causing electrical problems.

Follow your left interior fuseblock. Pay close attention where wiring harness runs down the firewall. The harness is getting pinched in this area. You can see all of the harness if you lay on the driver front floor and look directly at the firewall.

I will take a look at this, so will the wires be pinched down by the Firewall behind the pedals, or up above the pedals where all of the wiring harnesses are plugged in?

Also, what is a clockspring, never heard of this?

Thanks,

Clock-spring came on starting with the airbag in the steering wheel. Its a coil wound wire in a plastic holder under the steering wheel that winds & unwinds as you turn the wheel. There is no other way to have 100% continuity. They cost about $100 at the dealer.

Thanks for the Input, how hard is the clockspring to replace? I did just look under the left plastic kick panel, removed it, and looked around for wires that might be pinched, I am not seeing anything that jumps out at me as being damaged.

Thanks,

Now it doesn't seem to want to work at all, so something definetly has gone out. No matter what I do it will not work now.

So how hard is the Clockspring to remove and replace?
