Does Your Tonneau Cover Leak?

Okay folks, the title says it all. I need a tonneau cover but the number one conern is it cannot leak.

I really like the looks of the four section Fold-a-cover. I also like the looks of the three section Solid-fold. Do you have either one? Even better, would you put your priceless family heirlooms under it and go through a high pressure touchless carwash with it?

I have a 2003 Silverado, ext.cab, short bed with a Leer 700 series Hard tonneau cover and it does not leak (heavy rain or car wash), how do I know, I also have a bed rug installed and it's never gotten wet.

my dad has a extang that we take through laser washes all the time. never leaks. its the leatherette style withthe snap buttons. (whatever its officially called) its black and has 3 support rails.

I have an EXTANG "Full-Tilt" snapless tonneau cover,No leaks here what-so-ever,I also have a GM Bedrug and it never gets wet either.

I put stuff in the bed of my truck with confidence that it will not get wet.

my dad has a extang that we take through laser washes all the time. never leaks. its the leatherette style withthe snap buttons. (whatever its officially called) its black and has 3 support rails.

I have an EXTANG "Full-Tilt" snapless tonneau cover,No leaks here what-so-ever,I also have a GM Bedrug and it never gets wet either.
I put stuff in the bed of my truck with confidence that it will not get wet.

These are both soft tops right? I didn't specify before but the top need to lock as well so I think soft tops aren't an option.

Sure they are. Look at the tri-fold style with under-mounted clamps. Under-mounted clamps with a locking tailgate should work. If you need a harder, tamper/knife-proof top, consider the Torza-top tri-fold. I wasted big $$$ on a Bakflip which leaks like a sive....don't go there.

I spent the last 4 years selling truck accessories. I never sold a tonneau cover that didn't leak . Some more than others. Fold-a-cover style (bak-flip, fold a cover etc) and retractable (roll-n-lock, Pace Edwards, Roll-bak etc) leak the worst. Just not water tight at all. Snug Lid and Leer hard fiberglass covers or the Undercover (the best of the lot) are probably the best locking cover to keep things dry, but will still probably leak a bit. I have an Extang Express soft cover on my truck now, and it seals really well, almost water tight really. Extang makes thier new Solid Fold cover which looks pretty good, Don't have any first hand experince with it, but folding covers tend to leak more.

If I was you, and wanted water tight as possible and locking, I'd get an Undercover.

I have a 03 sierra and I got one of the hard folding covers for my bed. I love it, as an electrician I carry alot of tools and material around with me and it keeps them dry and secure. I have had a problem with it leaking a little bit, all I had to do is tighten some of the latching locks. It fairly secure also, with it folded all the way down you can't open the tailgate unless you rip of about 4 feet of 3M tape. I would also suggest a tailgate seal to keep dust out, I learned that the hard way. The only other way it leaked is if I take the powerwashing wand and hit the rubber seals too hard, but that usually isn't a problem.

I will have to agree with Ricko as I also sell covers. If you are looking for a cover not leak at all, you will not find one period. Some people get lucky that they don't look some don't. If you have bed liner and it wraps around the front edge of the bed you most lucky will have leaks. But there are several covers out there that are pretty well leakproof but, I will never warranty for not to ever leak. Undercovers do very will but around the locks like to leak. foldacover do very well, and also the advance cover on the gmt 800, I will not sell one on the nbs., Trifecta seals well,

Try an Access Limited cover. Mine doesnt leak and comes with tailgail gaskets that prevent that. It locks under the cover and I purchsed a tailgate lock to lock the tailgate. Its nice as it rolls out of the way when loading. Never has leaked even through the car wash.

Mine is pretty water tight, very tough and light as well. Not cheap, but better than a fiberglass one.

My undercover does not leak at all. Not even when I wash it with a strong hose.

One of the product benifits (next to last) claims they are "weather tight." Now, I take this to indicate that weather events like rain, storms, snow, etc. will not leak into the Undercover. A mis-guided high-pressure spray from a car wash or garden hose may breach the weatherstrip seal.

And, it has double latches and locks.

............AND you can stand on it.

And it really is easy for two people to remove and inststall. My fourteen year old daughter helps me.

Anyway..... Just my experience and observations.
