New Inner Tie Rod Ends

I went to get my front end alignment done and to my dismay was told my inner tie rods are shot. The truck only has 38k miles on it. At least they told me they wouldn't take my money for the alignment until I got the tie rods fixed. They quoted me a price of almost $400+ for the job. $186 X 2 for both inner tie rod ends and almost $150 to put them in and then another $70 for the alignment. I can live with everything but the $300+ for about $100 in parts. I guess I should be happy about the $80 discount I would be getting. Does this seem high to you folks or is that just the way the world is anymore? From what I was told from a couple of friends and what I have read, this place is a respectable business. What do you think?

Seems way high! Coincidentally, I just purchased four new tires and a free alignment check was included. I was told my LH inner tie rod needs to be replaced. Price quoted is $52.99 for the rod and $78 for the labor. I knew I could do better by doing it myself. I will be purchasing BOTH inner tie rods (new) for under $60 and replacing them myself. I will then get an alignment for $60. That's way less then your quoted price. Good luck...

The inner tie rods on 2 whl drives go out too early. One of mine went out at 20K miles. It was replaced under waranty. If I have to replace them I will go with Moog.

I ended up buying both sides from Napa...about $100 for the Moog premium line and $90 for labor to put them in and another $50 for an alignment. Tightened up my steering quite a bit!

Has anyone been told that they need to have knock outs removed in order to do the alignment? I went to have an alignment, and they told me it was going to be 84.50 for the alignment and 169.00 to remove the knock outs. Can anyone describe to me what is involved in this process?
