Paint Concerns

Truck is 2007 NBS Sierra with Deep Blue Metallic Paint (25U) that I took delivery of in May. Truck was build in Oshawa. I just fixed a huge stone ding on the leading edge of the hood, and I noticed many fine scratches all over the place. Truck has never been through an automatic carwash.

Also, there are 2 "scratches" on the pastic trim below the grill in the area where it curves down. These can't be from a stone given the direction they run.

Is there an easy way to measure paint thickness? I'm wondering if I should take in for the dealer to look at.

Anybody else with paint issues like this?

I bought my Dark Blue Metallic Silverado in May as well and I have already had to use touch up paint in 2 places (fender & hood). I don't remember touching up the paint on my old truck this soon but I have been down a few gravel roads so maybe that's the reason. As far as fine scrathes go i realy dont have any except on top of the bed from loading/unloading stuff and on my fender from a mesquite tree. These will be buffed out later.

Yes and no. Yes there is an ez way to measure the thickness of the combined layers (I.E. primer, base and clear coat) It's a magnet type of gage the paint shop uses. But IT WON"T MEASURE EACH LAYER!, only combined. If you take it to the dealer 1st, There WON'T be a problem, no matter what!(Factory rehursted statement) Take it to the best paint shop in your area an ask if they would check it out. Be up front about what YOUR looking at and ask their opinion. If they agree with you, have them put it in writing. (You may have to PAY for this.). NOW go to the dealer and TELL him what's wrong and show him the documtation.

The paint from Oshawa is by far the worst of GM's plants! (Not my opinion, but my area rep's. My Black 2007 Sierra Denali is getting a $8000 repaint)
