Anyone Find Themselves In My Situation?

So as most of you all know I bought a 2007 NBS CC Rado Z71 with the LT package and mybe just a couple extras and the mini V8 (4.8L, no complaints though). Now I find myself wanting everything the higher end models have.

Drivers Info Center- Ordered

Remote Start

Navigation/DVD

Katzkin Leather

Steering Wheel with Radio Controls

ETC ETC

I paid $32K for my truck brand new. The same truck with al thi crap from the factory (lower quality leather and Nav/DVD) would have cost me atleast $40K. To put all this junk in my truck itll cost me approx. $3500 give or take. That gets me better (custom) leather, a badarse Nav unit (Pioneer w/30GB Hard Drive), and the GM parts I can install Myself. Makes me feel good that I can have a 3LT or LTZ at half the cost. Sorry for the rambling but anyone find themselves doing this to their trucks?

It isnt always cheaper, because they do cost more, but you can get more off the expensive ones, my father got 13k off on his 49K sticker 2500HD Crew Cab Duramax, but theres always things you want even if you get the best.

i didn't pay nowhere near $40k for my LTZ. 5.3L Ext Cab Z71 4wd LTZ for $33.7 only thing i don't have is the nav. unit which i didn't want. I don't have the katzkin leather but I'm ok with the factory leather.

Well nevermind then, Im dillusional.

There is no one being critical of you.

Quite a lot of people just want the toys and will accept the OEM one's; 1. it's financed with the truck, 2. it's warranted with the truck.

SEMA and the whole aftermarket wouldn't exist if there wasn't people such as yourself that is willing to spend a little extra time to install the exact accessories that you desire. I would think that anyone purchasing a truck to spark or to reach for the ozone and anywhere in between usually buys the mere basics that can nowadays be gotten away with to get the desired drivetrain.

That's a good point. If one has a chance to go to the annual SEMA show, it's well worth it. Ton's of stuff for car and truck. I think they also have a magzine one can subscribe to.

Yep, I'd rather have the 5.3 for the extra power as well. The 4.8 is ok. My dad has a work truck with the 4.8. Its fine. But I love the 5.3/6.0.

I'm trading my truck in(2001 GMC Sierra 1500HD SLT 4x4) on a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT Z71 4x4. Has every option besides the Nav/Rear DVD. (Has Sunroof, Sliding Rear window, Trailering package, etc..) It has the 5.3 as well. I didn't want the 6.0 again for the horrible gas mileage. I know a guy with a VMAX set up just the way I'd do mine, and he gets 11mpg city.. Icck. Another guy has a 5.3 the way I like and does 15 mpg city.

But thats beside the point. With my trade in(12K) and various other rebates, including some customer loyalty ones. I'll get the truck out the door for under 20k. Probably high 19's, maybe low 20s. Not bad for a truck that stickered for almost 43k.

BUT one thing to consider, is we're buying a new suburban too. So that made em come off more when we had two vehicles to buy.

I've talked to a couple owners who get better city mileage in ther 6.0 because they don't have a heavy foot, but there some guys with 5.3's that get terrible city mileage because they floor it alot. Its all relative but overall the 5.3 does do better city than the 6.0 but c'mon.. ya gotta get the big dog. ;)

I got mine just a hair shy 20k below sticker and its fully loaded. You just have to shop around and wait for deals to crop up. At the time I bought it the GM nav system with touchscreen was worlds above any of products the aftermarket folks were offering. I am tempted to upgrade to the pioneer system now though but there is always the integration thing (I still don't understand why aftermarket guys don't work closer with the OEMs). So while GM was ahead of the game 3 years ago they seem to have fallen behind again.

Along with the decent deal topic here I got my 07-classic lt-3 Z-71 for 31000.00 out the door. the only options i dont have are the sunroof and the navigation. I also got the GMS discount on mine but the point is that good deals are out there if you look hard enough.

Personally that's exactly why I buy used. I can get anything I want fully loaded and I won't have to pay 500 a month for it.

I miss the signal/powerfold mirrors, LTZ dash, Stabilitrak, Head curtain airbags, navigation, 6.0, and rear parking assist. I really want to add the mirros and parking assist. stabilitrak, if its feasible.

    • I’m doing an experiment on a vehicle I don’t have much money in. I’m going by the premise that after they last 100K miles they were no mechanical problems with assembly. Or defects with the parts. With oil changes by the minder for the first 127K miles when I acquired it. I quickly went through low mileage oil changes then settled on 5k oil changes with close to 170K miles on the vehicle currently. I did have the option to turn off the cylinder deactivation. I didn’t on this vehicle because in ECONOMY mode at least half the time. It should be a no brainer frequent oil changes are the key. The manufacturer gets away with the long oil changes with its severe service  maintenance. Just ask them what is normal.
    • Even set to "recirculated", the air pushes out and is hot. I have noticed that sometime it doesn't want to switch between recirculated/vented air. Say it is set to Circulated Air and I want to switch to Vented, when I click the Vented button, it just quickly lights up/clicks and immediatly switches back to Circulated. It's done this a few times now. So maybe it is an actuator getting stuck? But then, that doesn't explain the hot air when everything is off does it?
    • I wonder what the price is out at the coast, Big Sur or other out of the way locations as I bet they are charging quite a premium over the in land pumps.
    • Were you looking at the HD trucks on the GM website or the half tons as that makes all the difference. As far as I know there are only two options for the HD trucks and that is the standard 2 speed transfer case or the 2 speed transfer case that has the added 4 high auto feature and they put that transfer case by default into the LTZ and High Country although its optional in the LT and not sure if its available in the work trucks.    The half tons, that is where its been a total mess in my estimation for a few years now with most trucks below the top trim having the single speed transfer case as standard but with the option of having the two speed such as one would get by choosing the Z71 package, however then not being able to get the two speed transfer case with the towing package unless it was a higher trim truck AND had the 6.2 gas so one could combine the towing package gearing diffs with the two speed transfer case. Having said that if its a trail boss package then it gets the two speed transfer case but not necessarily able to get the tow package as it would depend on trim level and engine chosen. Believe me, people have bought the GM half tons assuming "of course it will have a two speed transfer case" only to find out after when they really pay attention to what they now own .... crap, there is NO low range !.    I don't believe Ford or Ram have gone that way yet with their half tons but like I say its been a few years now that GM has done this with the half tons.
