Exhaust Replacement On My '00

Recommended Posts

This has been put off long enough. My Cats are shot and the e-test is up & coming. So I want to re-pipe.

The magnaflow cats (http://store.summitracing.com/partde...part=MPE-93419)seem to be the best stainless kit out there and the Gibson extreme duals are the ticket for my longbox. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...part=GIB-65007 (Not looking for an obnoxiously loud exhaust this time)

We get loads of salt on the roads here so I want everything to be stainless/corrosion-free.

My question is about headers. Do I go for stainless steel headers or regular steel headers coated with ceramic? The stainless model from Gibsons has a nice thick flange (3/8”) and is 16 gauge construction http://store.summitracing.com/partde...art=GIB-GP116S

But is stainless a durable material? I want this system to LAST. The edelbrock headers seem to be of similar flange and gauge http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku and could save a bit of quid by going this route compared to some of the other ceramic coated steel.

Will these “shorty” headers match up with the replacement cats I’m getting. I’m assuming a direct swap, am I way off base here? Thanks in advance.

G

PS Anyone ship Summit to Canada? Any suprise costs? Thx.

My opinion is to keep the stock exhaust manifolds. It will make passng the emissions tests much easier.

I would agree you should either stay with stock exhaust manifolds or consider the dynomax hi-flow cat/header system. I replaced my cats with a stock GM Y-pipe primarily because I'm getting up there in mileage (199K) and I wasn't going to keep it very much longer it didn't make sense to go with the dynomax solution.

The shipping to canada is a complete surprise, they don't tell you what the cost is, they just let you pick slow medium fast and tell you youll get charged after.

Yeah so my reason for headers was an apparent leak in the manifold but its a manifold bolt that's snapped on the drivers side closest to the firewall. Great. So they're gonna stay on there for a little while, or until the next one along lets go. I guess I'll take that $$ and replace the Oxy sensors to get some mileage back!

The magnaflow cats will end up just more than 1/3 the price of the GM set so that's a no brainer.

Thx for the replies
