Factory Remote Start

My new truck came with the options for Remote Start Provisioning. When I called the dealer to get an estimate on how much it would cost to get it set up, I was told around $400, they would need to go in, program the computer, get two new Key things, and such. Do you think it is worth it?

My truck came with it as part of something I believe was called "Convenience Package". Besides from the Remote starter, it included fog lamps, 17" aluminum wheels (which my truck came with 18" wheels as part of another package, so that was worthless...), and steering wheel radio controls.

It's a cool feature, but also something I would've been able to live without.

My truck came with it. Here in Florida it is great to be able to cool off the black interior on those really hot/sunny days. I like it!

Have it and love it!

It gives the truck about 30 seconds to lubricate while I walk towareds it insted of me jumping in, cranking and taking off.

Also, it's nice to have blower running when I open the doors to blow the hot air out.

My truck also came with the RPO AP8 Remote prep pkg. I did not want the conv pkg, which included remote start, power pedals and rear park assist. But I did want the remote start. So, I had the dealer install it pre-delivery. They charged me $262 complete. All they do is exchange the keyfobs and program them. That's it. Don't pay $400, they are screwing you.

For $400 you can put in a damm nice aftermarket 2-way remote starter that will have much better range than the stock remote.

Yeah the range on the factory remote start sucks, for how close you have to be might aswell start it with the key. I have a Viper 791XV on my other truck and can start from a 1/2 mile away and it lets you know if you truck is started, with the factory the only way I can tell is my exhaust.

I have it and love it but could easily live without it if I didn't have the family. Very nice to get the truck cooled down or warmed up before you take off. Fewer complaints and happier kids!

I really enjoy it (for all the reason mentioned) and have fun with it too.

This afternoon, on the way out of a store and into the parking lot, I hit remote start and fired her up. A lady had just gotten out of the car parked next to it and gave the "What the hey?" look. As I approached my truck she said, "That is soooo weird."

"Yeah, creepy, isn't it?"
