Getting A 2001 Silverado 1500.

Im thinking of getting a 2001 silverado 1500 but the guy tells me that the 4wd is not working how will i know what to change in the car.

 

i've read so many topics and every1 is saying the transfer case is leaking but in this silverado nothing is leaking and the 4wd sometimes works and sometimes not do i need to change the TRANSFER CASE 4WD ACTUATOR or the whole transfer case?

I take it this 4WD is the AutoTrac system? Not too sure about this setup, but if it is the AutoTrac, it might be electrical which means it could even be the switch in the dash. My friend had the AutoTrac and his 4WD gave him problems until he noticed some wires that were grounding in his switch on the dash. He accidently cut some of the insulation from the wires when installing something else and that caused his problem. Wished I could be more help.
