On my 04 burb 5.3 my engine started to run rough at idle about a month ago and would clear up now and then. Now the Check engine light is on. Any idea what it could be.

Thanks guys

no it not under warr anymore 42000 miles. Hey about auto zone. How does that work ? Do you pay them to scan it or what ?

Nope, its free!! They just want to sell you parts needed sorta thing.

I'd do that first before you guess all day long.

If YOU want to reset it, disconect the neg batt cable for a few minutes, that will clear the codes.

You can clean the mass air sensor with a electrical spray. But I dont see that making the car run rough.

I'd get the code, and then we can pin point the problem..

Clearing the code does nothing. You need to fix the problem to rid yourself of the light. Hopefully it isn't anything serious.

So what was the problem? I am going to take the advice and hit AUTOZONE tomorrow morning myself ..... Did it end up having something to do with your K&N drop-in? I put one in myself not too long ago ......

Clearing the codes will not solve the problem - the codes will be reset as soon as the offending part acts up. You can also pull the computer fuses to clear the codes if you don't want to re-program your radio etc.

Going to Autozone sounds like the best idea as it could be any of the items mention above - I had an EGR valve on my 89 Astro set a code and cause rough idle. The rough idle could also be part of the limp home mode that is part of the computer controlled engines these days

Hey, Scott, please do yourself a big favor, get rid of the oiled filter. You can get dry flow filters that will fit the K & N intake. Getting rid of that oiled filter will do wonders in relieving headaches.

Please, please, please get rid of the oiled filter, they are not good for the health of your engine.

+2 on that, so much easier with a dry filter and much safer
