The Longer Bilstein Install Issues

Recommended Posts

Posted

I just ran into some trouble installing the longer Bilstein shocks on my 1500 HD. After the hassle of compressing the shock and getting it lined up the OEM bolt is too big for the supplied bushings. The shocks are for a Ford Bronco but were recommended by cognotio motor sports and guys on the forum. Options 1) somehow press out the OEM bushing 2) No bushing 3) buy new bushings somewhere 4) other ideas?

Anyone running this setup have a solution.

Thanks

OK the cognito guys are at SEMA all week so someone must know something? I tried to find some different bushings today but no luck. If also tried some 3/16 bolts and they are too small.

The problem is the lower mount on the shock. It comes with a rubber grommet and a bushing you press in. The OEM bolt won't fit through the supplied bushing and the bushing in the OEM shock doesn't want to come out. Didn't find bolts that work at the local ACE I'll try Home Depot. Just wondering what other guys did that are running these shocks.

I replaced mine in the spring and I don't remember pressing a bushing in for the shock. The OEM bolt was tight, but it fit nevertheless.

These are the part numbers for your truck if you cranked the T-bars :

Thanks for the link. I have the BE5-6243-H5, got the part number off cognito's site. They said they would work with OEM or their UCAs. Maybe thats the difference.
