I'm going to install a Ham radio into the new Silverado this weekend. Anyone found a good source of 12VDC and an easy path into the cab? I am considering tapping into the power lead for the trailer harness. I'm will be remote mounting the radio under the back seat, and the display to the right of the stereo.

Thanks,

Steve

i haven't put mine in yet (hoping to get a new unit actually) ... but i always run straight to the battery for + and - on a ham radio ... avoids a lot of other potential noise issues.

I've always just tapped into the power for the 12v outlets. Never had any serious issue with noise.

Me too. I treid to find an accesory switched 12V power source with no luck. Radio uses a data line or something. I have to remember to turn off my 2M and CB radios.

Not sure if this applies to your truck, but I connected to the emergency battery charge point (see picture from 2001 Sierra/Silverado, near battery as illustrated in Users Manual). I fused a line near the attachment point, to avoid any chance of serious problem.Battery_Connection_for_2001_GMC_Sierra.pdf
