Swapping Out Center Seat

Hey all,

 

I've got an '04 regular cab sierra and I'm intrested in swapping out the center seat section and replacing it with a folding console type unit like they have in the extended cab units. Has anyone else done this?

 

I'd really like to have the extra storage space for CD's and stuff, plus it would be nice to use it as an armrest while driving. Here's a pic of what I'm working with -

It's definatly doable. You can get the one from the extended cabs and swap them out, I think you also need to replace some dash pieces, maybe the glove box too. Someone on here will know better than me, but ya, I am also assuming you want the one that flows up into the dash...

Aren't there also versions of the center seat that don't connect into the dash? I know I've seen this on other models, but perhaps it was a different year. I really don't want this to turn into a huge project...

Considering doing the same thing to my crew, the floor console does flow up into the dash, and there are several pieces of the dash that you will have to replace in order to relocate the cigarette lighter plugs and "blend" the dash together. Problem for me is finding suitable parts for my truck in the color. I think that the total pieces are 4-6 (major ones) and that this uninstall/install may take the better portion of your afternoon to do every little thing correctly, but the main ones are bolts and nuts.

Try ebay. Its more of a bolt in then a huge project.

I recently added the factory console to my 2006 GMC reg cab WT. I got the console off eBay for something like $200.00 and then ordered the glove box unit (all one assembled piece) part # 15807855 (tan) from local GMC dealership, list price $316.15 and purchase price was $161.30. Installing it was very simple, like a couple of hours, as everything bolts right in, and even the power plug and cig lighter wiring from the dash plugs right in to the console with no cutting or splicing. Well worth the cost and effort in my opinion.

I think the one that you are refering to is folding arm rest console middle seat, like the one that i have in my 07 obs sierra, all you have to do is remove both the front seats, then you can get at the bolts for the middle seat, once all the seats are out, just do the complete opposite but installing the new folding console middle seat, only problem you might have is that when the middle seat is folded down, the back end of it might be tight against the back wall of your truck, but check clearances before you do anything.

sorry forgot one thing, check the bone yards for the console middle seat you might even get one in your color and seat fabric style 99-07

Oh ya, looking at your pic it seems like your looking for what Kelly's talking about. And like he said that would be a very simple install.
