In-line Fuel Pump

Recommended Posts

I am adding a In-line fuel pump to my silverado. Has anyone done this to their truck. Is so any pictures or insturctions, or brand names would be great. I have done some searching and found this one Fuel Pump. I am just unsure how to tap int othe SS line under the truck. Also we do have a fuel return correct?

That is what i am trying to figure out. I deffentially do not want to add one but a lot of people that I talk to say more boost more fuel = in line fuel pump.

Your stock pump will NOT support your goal of 8psi on your motor and you will need to upgrade your in tank pump or add an in-line pump. I have both a walbro-220 in tank and an in-line GSS340 (2 pumps) on my truck.

Looking at your stats, I see you have an 03 which is a GOOD thing in that the fuel system is a return system (although I have seen some bastard trucks with a returnless system in late 03). You have a few options here and by far the easiest one will be to add an in line GSS340 in line fuel pump. I suggest calling Magnacharger and ordering their in line set-up for the Radix kits on your model truck. The pump will come with a complete set-up that mounts where your fuel filter is on your frame rail and taps into your exsisting fuel pump via a relay. NO FAB WORK will be needed except for drilling a mounting hole to secure the pump.

The 03 return fuel system also has a boost / vac referenced fuel pressure regulator which ultimately gives the truck fuel pressure to idle around 52psi to a WOT (full boost 8psi) of 62-63psi. The returnless systems have a static pressure of around 58psi. The additional fuel pressure for the 03 trucks gives more breathing room because the injectors are really flowing alot more than rated. I don't know if I asked but what size injectors are you running? Please tell me you are using the 42#rs as anything smaller, you run the very likely risk of going lean and melting a piston or two. If you are running the powerdyne on stock injectors and stock fuel pump, PLEASE upgrade to save your truck.

I know you run a powerdyne set-up and they are notorious for not having complete kits. Please do your homework before turning up the wick on boost. :)

BTW, Who does your tuning?

EDIT: I found out you are running an FMU. Lose it. Buy yourself some marine 42# multecII injectors, the in-line fuel pump I discussed and find a tuner to set-up your PCM for the new hardware. Any competent tuner worth his/her salt can cut a mild cookie cutter tune to get you started (hell, a mail order tune could work well - I suggest Lydon at Wester's Garage). Once you are all buttoned up and the new flash in your PCM, get on a dyno and do a 3rd gear pull. Have your tuner dial in a safe 11.9 AFR. Swap your blower pulley and do another pull KEEPING A CLOSE EYE on the AFR. Adjust the fueling as needed and then have fun adding spark advnace  It will be fun seeing the HP increase as you add advance. Keep it conservative (I would say 13-14*) unless you don't have any KR then give her a few more ticks.
