Fuel Mileage - 2007 Silverado

Only have 3500 miles on 2007 Silverado NBS, but getting about 18.5 mpg if all highway. A mix of highway and city knocks it down to around 16 mpg. All city driving is resulting in about 14 mpg. These figures are coming from actual calculations using miles/gals and not what the DIC is showing. The DIC has been showing slightly higher mpg numbers. I towed my 22' travel trailer, about 4500# loaded, for the first time with the new truck last month on a 1150 mile trip with all but 50 miles driven on the Interstate with mpg ranging from 8.5-9.7.

it sucks.. the active fuel managment doesn't do a d**n thing in my option. My 05 get got better mileage then my 07.. I probably get 15-15.5 in the city

I usually average about 15-16 mpg on normal weeks, which is mostly city with plenty of traffic. Last weekend I went on a 300 mile round trip and got about 21 mpg (going 65 mph+ most of the time). I have close to 10,000 miles on the odometer.

I do all my calculations by hand which are usually close to the DIC reading with the DIC being a bit higher (0.5 to 1 mpg).

With an EPA rating of 16 and 20 on most of our trucks, I don't see how many of us can complain. It was fairly obvious these weren't Honda Civics when we bought em.

This is a question that I think about constantly. Being an engineer, I always try to get the most efficiency out of my machines.

I bought my 2007 in August, and have driven it 5300 miles. It's a crew cab, 5.3L, not flex-fuel, with 3.73 rear end, 2wd. I have averaged 18.7 over the life of the truck. I drive from Indiana to Minnesota about once a month for about 1200 miles round trip, and get 22 to 23 mpg on a tank on the highway going exactly the speed limit, windows up, A/C off, trying to avoid touching cruise control. Cruise control helps mileage dramatically, as does flat terrain. I have found that going anywhere between 55 and 70 on flat roads yields about the same mileage. I also take my time coming up to speed when merging onto the highway.

I will stay in 4 cylinder mode so long, that it must switch back to 8 cylinder mode to charge the battery. I can watch my voltmeter go from 14.3 down to about 12.5 volts before it goes back to 8 cylinder mode. First time it did it, I used the onstar button to get connected with the local service center, cause I thought my charging system was broken. They told me that it does not charge the battery in 4 cylinder mode, and this behavior was normal.

Around town I get 16.5 to 17 mpg. My very first tank which was mostly around town was about 15.5 mpg.

I traded in a 1998 Honda CR-V with 124,000 miles to buy the Sierra. Its 2.0 Liter engine with 124 horsepower got 24 mpg on the highway, sometimes 25.

Overall, I think the mileage is fantastic for such a large vehicle with so much power.

Getting 16.8 mpg with mine but i only drive 10miles round trip to work and back but when i take it to the big city about 18miles one way it goes up to 17.1 and will stay there for about a week , i've got just over 1,100 miles on mine now and sofar the "DIC" has been right on with the mpg.

I wonder what a civic's mpg would be if it weighed 5000 lbs?
