Tire Advice

My Silverado came with the General Americtrac 245/70 17 raised white letter tires. I want to move up to the 265/70 17 all terrain tires that are optional. My truck is two wheel drive, so I don't neccesarily NEED them, I just like the look and want to do some off roading in the nearby Ozark and Oauchita mtns.

My Generals have 900 miles now, and my tire guy is offering to take them off and install BFGoodrich LT 265/70 17 All-Terrain T/A KO's for $438,(with him reselling my old General's) Seems like a good deal to me,.................

Anyone have these tires? Do you like them? Does the price seem fair? :nono:

Thanks

You should get your speedometer recalibrated for the new tires. Your speedo will be 3.6% slower with the new tires. When your speedometer is reading 60 mph, you will be going 62.2 mph.

I take it that you reside in Arkansas? :sigh: (Noticed your forum name "hogpowr" and you are talking about wheeling in the Ozarks and Quachita Mtns. I grew up hunting in the Quachita National Forest.

I have been in New England about 18 months now, but was born and raised in AR. Actually I hope to be moving back down to AR in the first quarter of '08 is all goes as planned.

As far as the deal on tires you were offered. I say TAKE IT!, that sounds like a great deal in BFG AT's. I have owned several sets of them, and I plan on putting them on my 07 once the existing ones get some where on them.

IMO, they are the best tire available in a all-terrain.

I replaced my General 245/70R17's and put them for sale in a regional paper. I got one call about them, and he didn't want them. Ended up practically giving them away. All that was to say, take the deal.

BTW, I grew up in NW AR, did a lot of dirt bike riding in White Rock Nat. Forest near Cass. Go Hogs Go!

Take the deal, you'll be very lucky if the General tires make it to 20k miles. I had mine replaced under warranty at around 5k miles.

I say take the deal, i just got rid of my americrap 245/70/17 tires and replaced them with toyo open country a/t's LT 265/70/17 tires, once you leave the parking lot of the tire shop you will notice right away, i felt more comfortable with them on my truck, i had the bfg's on my old dakota and just loved them, the Lt's ride abit stiff as compared to the americraps but o well it's a truck not a car right!

Thanks to everyone on the feedback!

I think it is a go. Most places I checked online were $760 to $800 delivered, then I would have to pay to get them mounted, and have ANOTHER set of tires laying around.

How bout' them Hogs,.............Hodo and Greystone!

Most folks around here are sick of Houston Nutt, but that is a different forum! LOL www.hogville.net

if they have it go with 265/65R17 so your speedo will remain accurate. very good choice

Its done! Wow! Much more cornering power on pavement, the old Generals would roll over, yikes :smash: I am very happy with these BFG's.

We are headed to the Quachita's friday afternoon, can't wait to try them out!

I test drove 2 different 4x4 Silvy's with the Wrangler's and those tires were louder and more slippery on pavement. I still liked them though.

Looks great! My new tires were a vast improvement in handling and traction as well. I meant to ask you what rear gear ratio you have.
