Summer Tires Winter Tires Gmt900

So with my 1990 Chevrolet 1500 I have two sets of tires/rims. All mounted and balanced. No need to break down tires/rims to switch. All 8 are mounted and balanced. I just swap each season. Spring Fall.

Fast forward. 2008 GMC 1500. If I purchase from one of the auctions sites tires/wheels already mounted and balanced - it ain't gonna work. Where is the sensor? I got 4 sensors that came with new truck. The auction site rims/wheels/tires don't have any sensor. So this ain't gonna work is it. I need 4 more sensors. And who knows if that will work. And who knows what each sensor costs.

So what's the solution? Just purchase the tires and pay for balance/mounting each season.

Yes, there are 'all season' tires out there. We get real snow here and I prefer a real snow tire in winter. But not a real snow tire in Summer.

Is this an enigma wraped in a riddle?

I just bought four more sensors and programmed them to my truck when I bought another set of wheels/tires for mine.

I still have the OE wheels/tires/sensors if I need them.

The sensors did run me about $200 though.

I just purchased new wheels and tires. It was a extra $200.00 for the sensors. You will be farther ahead if you buy the new sensors IMO.

I kept the stock alloys and all-terrains for summer use.

For winter, I bought a set of OE steelies and had them mounted with new winter tires and a new set of tire pressure sensors. Think I paid about 50 bucks apiece for the new sensors.

You'll need to reprogram the TPMS system when you change wheels/tires in the spring and fall, but in my experience if you follow GMs instructions, it should be easy as pie.

Can the sensors be added to pretty much any wheel? We get lots of snow here and I'd rather run winter tires and summer tires on my truck when it gets in.

Should be able to,Just check the clearance/fitment first before you mount-up the tires.

I bought 4 extra 17" LTZ aluminum mags, Michelin X-Ice winters, 4 sensors, and had them mounted by the dealer. Even with a discount, it still came to $2600. So as I'm reaching for the stack of tires to start loading them, I notice another stack of mounted tires right beside them by the parts counter. The same 4 LTZ mags w/sensors, new rubber, BFG KO's I think, factory new take-off's $1150. Sometimes the timing really sucks

I have a set of chrome steel wheels for the GMC Sierra, with center caps. I also have a set of tire pressure sensors as well. I would be willing to sell both for $250.00. I would also have to check on shipping, if you were interested. This could solve both problems.
