Regular Synthetic/true Synthetic

I know that I am going to hear it for this, but does anybody know where I can find some good information on the different classes of motor oil when it comes to synthetic? I want to see/read/compare some information so I can decide if I still want to use Mobil 1 or switch to a different class (I believe that Mobil 1 is a class 4 synthetic). Any links/references would be appreciated. This is not one of those "which motor oil do you prefer" threads, rather only reference information..

Spend about 6 months reading every thing on bobistheoilguy.com

Read enough and you'll start to laugh at some of the things you see posted here and at other forums regarding oil...

The above is correct. That website has all you could ever want to know about oils. That website is a wealth of information.

Now, if you want to know what is the 'best' oil, well, I'll have to go to my mechanic and ask, as he buys in bulk, 55 gallons drums of the stuff. I have no clue the brand, but I can ask. I think he buys from a big company called ENRON or some such name.

You should also ask where is a good website or information on the oil filter. Does it have a check valve or not, etc.

look up Amsoil.com i was a firm user of mobil 1 til , been using it since 1980 . i did research and found Amsoil. now im a firm beleaver in using Amsoil.

Amsoil is a very good oil. I will never use it because of their multi level marketing, sold like amway. and some of their outlandish claims.

Amsoil is a blender, that means that they do not manufacture any of their ingredients. They buy them from other companies. Yes they do buy from Mobil 1, PAO and some base oils. They are not the only blenders, Castroil is one too.

Todays oils are good. You can't buy a major brand thats bad.

There are very few true synthetics (group 4 PAO) They would be German Castrol, Red Line-Ester makes it a group 5, Royal Purple, Some lines of Amsoil, yes not all Amsoil is group 4. They are up front and tell you though. Some Mobil 1 lines have PAO, some have group 3 mix. Mobil is so deceptive any more it is hard to know which. There may be a few others Its early and I can't remember.

Just get a good name brand, CHANGE it regulary and you will be good to go. A lot of people have gone to Penzoil Platnum, they say it is a very good oil. And yes you can't go wrong with Mobil 1.

I use German Castriol 0W30. The European formula. True group 4 PAO. The only problem it is only avalable at AUTO Zone. Don't worry about the 0 part it it a little on the thick side. Works great for me.

May the force be with you,
