Auto Headlights Revisited

Alright gang, last time I asked I got mixed answers, heres the question again:

For GMT900 owners ONLY!

Do your auto headlights come on when you start the engine WITHOUT putting it into gear at night?

Will they come on at night if you have the parking brake on when you start the vehicle up?

Remote Start Users:

Do your auto headlights come on at night when you start your vehicle with the remote start?

If they do come on, will they come on with your parking brake engaged?

Thanks

Headlights will turn on when the engine is started, if the sensor is darkened.

I am not sure about the remote start, since I dont have it. I will go check right now, but the headlights should stay off when the engine is running as a safety feature to prevent you from driving with your parking brake on.

Yes, the headlights come on when I start the truck and it's dark outside.

Headlights with remote...

Click "door lock"

Click "remote start"

Parking lights come on and truck starts.

The headlights only turn on when I press the "unlock" button to get into the pickup.

And to beat a dead horse - It's all programmable through the DIC.

The reason I am double checking is because on my 99, if the parking brake was engaged, the automatic headlights would not come on until the parking brake was released.

Does not work that way on my 2007. I do not have a factory remote start but rather aftermarket (Clifford) the headlights come on when its dark, regardless of if the parking brake is on or not. I'll see if there is some setting on the DIC to disable the automatic headlights or change it, but I doubt it. I may have to find a way to disable the auto headlights, I don't want the headlights or the parking lights to come on when the vehicle is started at 5AM and its dark out, don't need to be blinding my neighbors, don't need the Cops to see that my vehicle is running either, believe it or not a few folks with remote start systems have gotton tickets, apparently the law does not care if your truck is disabled if someone tries to break into your vehicle when it is running with remote start.

for the GMT900 they removed the parking brake one click to turn the headlights off - instead they made it much easier - they made a switch that allows you to override the auto headlights either haveing them on all the time or off. A simple twist of a knob is all it takes. As for the remote start I don't know as I don't have it. My headlights come on when I unlock the doors and it is dark outside.

Thanks for the feedback

My next question would be:

Has anyone been able to disable the Automatic Headlights but still keep the DRLs? Or does anyone know if it is possible to disable the automatic headlights with a programmer? It has to be possible somehow for Law Enforcement purposes not having the lights come on automaticly when you start the vehicle...

yeah they stick a resistor in the circuit, yeah yeah I know I dont have a GMT900, sorry.

Did another search, found this info pertaining to the 800s..

Install One 1.5K ohm 1/2 watt resistor (Radio Shack, $0.49 for a package of 5) in place of the light sensor not a jumper wire between the wires
