Cb Install Help On 06 Silverado

Recommended Posts

Hey yall I need some help. I just got a 2006 Silverado single cab and I have a CB that I want to install. I know where/how to hook up the power, but I dont know where to run the cable for the antenna so I dont have to drill a hole in the body/floorboard. Can anybody tell me where a grommet is so I can run the cable through there?

Thanks,

Andrew

I will look to see if there are grommets that you can use, if not, there might be an air vent that can be used. I will let you know what I find when I get home, by the way, where are you sticking the antenna?

I'm getting a toolbox tomorrow and i plan to mount a whip or something to it. Thanks for the help so far. I just got the truck last Sunday and I havent got to investigate on it much.

I looked around on the service manuals and I did not find anything of real use, I have a 2006 silverado as well, I will take a look around the cab to see what could be used, if I find anything, I will take pictures and post em.

Most toolboxes are aluminum. The aluminum will not provide a good ground. If you attach the antenna to an aluminum tool box, you will have to run a ground wire from the antenna to get a good signal. You might be better off using a magnetic mount. I use a K-40 magnetic and stick it on the roof. Good transmission and reception.

I have an ext cab 06. Look under the dash and there is a place to the right of the accelerator kind of up high that is not covered by plastic. It is just bare metal (well, painted). It looked like Chevy had in mind to use that. I drilled a hole through there and put a gromet in. I used an antenna cable where I put the end on so the hole is very small. That way it is way up high from any water. I can send pics if you want. Of course it depends on where you antenna is, but I put mine on the driver's side as per some other suggestions on these forums. It almost looks factory.

I decided not to go through existing gromets. I had seen warnings from people, which made sense, that if you opened up those up, you wouldn't be able to seal them like the factory. So now you have tons of factory wiring going to all sorts of import stuff with the change of being knicked as you poke through the gromet, plus now the gromet won't be weather tight.

Just my 2 cents.

what about the rear vents on the back wall? I was looking to put the antenna in the stake hole and run a ground to a bare metal screw on the underside to make sure it was well grounded........(mine is going from the cab, under the rail and all the way to the stake hole on the right side next the the tailgate)
