is there a difference in buying one? i mean, will any remote starter work on any vehicle? sorry to sound n00bish, but this is the first automatic i've owned in 10 years...remote starters for manual's are hard to come by.

I have a viper 5900...best alarm and remote start IMO. Worth the money... The reason I went with the viper is because where i bought it from had a lifetime warranty on parts and labor and if i get a new truck they will take out this one and install it in my new truck for free. This is my second one because I had a friend install my first one and the place would not take it out for free. So anyway viper has some cool features on all its remote starts and they have a lifetime warranty on parts. The one without the lcd screen is 350 I believe and IMO is worth every penny espically if your looking for a remote start and alarm

Hey Rich, is there an OEM solution that can be installed for the GMT-800 series truck. I have looked around and cannot find any real useful information except how to diagnose current equipped trucks.

I have the Black Widow system in both my vehicles and it works great..two way remote and about a mile on the range...

Best price is here....

Is this all that is needed to install one in a truck? Was there any splicing into factory wires?

I had both of mine installed at a local shop. Including the ignition bypass module (you need that to override the security system), it cost 150.00. The instructions don't look that hard, but I just thought it would be better to have someone who is used to doing this type of work, rather than my inevitable mess up of some part that would cost me that much to fix after the fact. This unit comes with an LED remote so you know what is going on with the vehicle and it alerts you right before it shuts the vehicle off (it is user adjustable as to how long you want the vehicle to remain started).

Id have to say hands down best are the Vipers. If you want to install it yourself you can get the viper 791vx for like $200 online or like $400 or installed. And thats a 2 way pager alarm and remote start ect..
