Ok here is what i got, i have a 2007 Silverado z71 and i'm trying to install a system in it. I'm heaving trouble wiring it all together. I've got no problem with wiring the subs and amp. The thing i'm having trouble with is I cant figure out how to correctly wire the amp to the head unit. (I want to keep the stock head unit and use that). Can anyone point me in the right direction about how to wire this up correctly? I've got all the wire and everything else you need to do it i just dont know what wires to hock together is basicly all.

why not just get an aftermarket head unit, then you will have more options tuning wise for your system. you know you are going to get one eventually... might as well just do it now!

If you like to listen to your music loud and bump your system I garuntee if you keep your stock head unit that you will blow the sub and amp if not at the same time then seperatley. I blew 2 subs and 1 amp with my first system which was all brand new top of the line kicker equipment. Save yourself the trouble and get an aftermarket the second I did it sounded better and have had the same equipment for 2 years with no problems (knock on wood).

this makes no sense to me

why would a stock deck cause your subs or amp to blow? i say it was the wiring, but thats just me!

ireally want to keep my stock deck but i want to add a 10" sub for a lil extra thump...and since my truck is a lease, i dont' want to tear the dash apart

so if anyone figures this out, let me know cuz i want to hook it up!

you dont have to tear your dash apart. it sound slike you do if you have neevr done it b4.. but its easy. you pop off the front cover... a few boltls later and un clip the wiring harness and your done taking out your stock stuff. Then when you buy a head unit, you will buy a mount kit as well... you bolt up the deck (which will include a wiring harness for your specific truck, when you tell the store what you need) you plug that after market harness into the stock one... then clip the other end into the deck... as well as your rcas, and your remote wire from your amp (will have to tap that into your after market wiring harness) and then bolt and or clip the mount kit on, then snap the dash cover back on and you are in business. its really not difficult at all.

hardest part (if you are a newb at it) is connecting all the wires (deck will come with a plug w/wires, then the other half of the harness will be wires on one end, and plug for your truck on the other)... have to strip the wires (from both adapters) and connect them all to their respected colors (twist/soilder/heat shink).... if you dont feel comfortable doing it, get the stereo shop to do it. (or even get them to do the whole install, but as most ppl will tell you, no need to spend the money when its simple to do yourself) and as with anything it comes with instructions...and if you do it once, you can charge all your buddys money to do theirs for them lol

in addition.. if you are to move up and get dvd player, nav, ipod connect, bluetooth, and so on, your install gets a little more complicated, and there are a few more wires.... and if your dvd player is like most, they come and are only able to play vids in park... so you either have to know what your doing to change that in your wiring process, or you need to get a stereo shop to do it for you (which they may not do, since it is kind of illegal)

i will tell you one thing, if you do get an aftermarket head unit... dont just get the cheapest one that has rcas just for the sake of an easier install. get something quality, that you like, and wouldnt mind having for awhile. its better to spend the money now, rather than buying a POS for like 100 bucks, then hating it in 3 months when you have money for something better... then going out and buying something better (and having that 100$ waste of money laying in ur garage collecting dust, and being unable to sell it) i made that mistake a few years back when i had my old truck... so with my new silverado i went all out and got a sick dvd/nav/ipod video set up. yeah its close to 1000 for that kind of set up, but my nav has come in sooooo handy, i dont regret spending that money for a second. and down the road i added the bluetooth adapter (which i love) and also a threw a ps2 in for s**ts and giggles... plus since our trucks have room for a double din install, a in dash dvd not only has tons of options, but looks very stock in appearence, and creates a very clean install. so i could use the hi/lo convertor AND keep the stock head unit? (i will NOT replace my head unit)

what about just a 10" sub and keep the stock speakers? does that sound decent? i dont' want to spend more than like $500 (amp/sub/box). i have had a huge system when i owned a prelude but i dont' need that crazy bass anymore..i just want SOME bass (compared to pretty much nothing with the stock sub)

i don't listen to my music at crazy loud volumes either..and it's mostly rock/metal..with some rap

for keeping your stock head unit ... but still having good quality sound.... check out the rockford 360.1 (or .2) alpine also makes a good peice .. that keeps the factory deck ... but gives you a TON of options

They make a complete adapter that gives you RCA's out of the factory head unit. I saw it on ebay a couple of days ago. When I find it ill add the link but just look on ebay.

I have been doing A/V installs, fiberglass.... for a while and also competing in DB drags IASSCA..... I also have no desire to change out my factory head unit for any reason. I will change out to some JL XR's or ZR's and add an 8, 12, 13.5 W7. If you need any other help let me know.
