What's It Worth?

Alright guys.. here's the deal. I'm considering buying a 2004 Silverado Crew Cab LT Z71. Its white, got tan leather, power everything, Bose, XM, OnStar, signal mirrors, auto climate control.. in other words it has EVERY option possible. Its got around 50,000 miles on it.

 

It belongs to a lady that works with my dad. She's never had it on gravel and her husband has never drives it. Its been babied in other words. She is asking $19,300 for it. I did a KBB evaluation on it, and in excellent condition it books at $20,095. Since very few vehicles can be considered excellent, I feel like the value falls somewhere between the excellent condition number and the good condition number of $18,875. What do ya'll think I should offer her? I originally was thinking $18,500 was fair, but after seeing this I realize its actually worth more. I think it would be a good starting point, anyway.

A new crew cab LT equivalent would sticker for about twice that before discounts. If you want it... I say hit her at $18.500. That's only 800 off of her asking price and it is a used 50K truck. Sounds like a nice one but that IS a fairly large amount of money to spend on a used truck without any warranty.

 

Personally if I were going to spend that much on a 3 year old truck, I think I would just go ahead and buy a new one. But that's just me.

I would say 15,500 or 16,500 at the most, but that is me....

I paid 19 Canadian for mine almost a year ago now, when our dollar was like .80 US.

 

Its a 2wd 4.8 with 70K Km on it

 

I'd say 19 is a good deal...but like M. Cueva said...Lowball at like 16,500 see what she comes back with. It does have 50K on it...and is an 04.

that is almost what a used car dealership wanted for a 2004 Silverado with the same options on it and with 65K and he wanted $20,500 plus TTL. I told him to screw himself and went over and got my 2006 (Then new with 2 miles) for $22,495+ TTL so you do the math...Can I ask as to why you would not consider new?

I appreciate the input. My 2001 is paid for so I won't owe much on the 2004 at all when everything is said and done. She started at $21,000 and this was back in September. She hasn't really advertised, though, and my dad only knows about it because he works with her.

 

I would honestly rather have a new truck, but I'm graduating college in May and I would rather owe $6000-7000 on a vehicle than $15,000-20,000. I have zero student loans because I have been on a full-ride scholarship for the past 4 years and will graduate debt free other than what I owe on this truck, assuming I buy it. I can have this one paid off in a year or two and then worry about things like buying a house and everything else that comes along as I get going in the "real world"..

I appreciate it! I'm going to call her tomorrow afternoon to see if I can drive it Monday. I'll copy the VIN down and shoot it your way if that will work.

 

I'm not sure how things are where everybody else is from, but I feel like I need to mention that these trucks go for a premium here. We are in a very rural area where everybody drives trucks.. My mom even drives the 2003 in my signature. You can always find good deals, but I think the lowball numbers ya'll are shooting wouldn't be realistic here.

 

If I were to buy new, the truck I would buy would sticker for around $34,000. The most I could get off of that would be $6,000-7000 and that is with a family member who sells new Chevrolets. That's nearly a $10,000 difference from what I'd put into this truck.

ouch, I didnt realize that you lived in a rural area. over here in austin, there is STIFF competition to sell, all I did was pit one dealer vs another, but if that is the case, then you might be better off with that truck. Let me put it this way.. the community I grew up in (which is where I am now for Christmas Vacation) has a population of 83. Well.. We're actually not even in the "city limits" of that community.. We live 20 minutes from town either north or south. Its a lot different from Austin, but it was a great place to grow up in!

 

I'm definately not afraid of lowballing! I am just very realistic. I'm not real sure what she owes on the truck so that will be a big contender in the price, as well. Since she is a coworker of my dad's I want to try and make a deal that is fair to both of us.

Just ask her her best price, see if she moves any on whats shes asking. If she moves it by a grand shes expecting 17, if she says something like 19 and no lower she owes like 18+ on it.

The dealer in the town north of us would list that truck for $21000-23000. The dealer south of us would, as well. There's a decent sized town about 45 minutes away that has lots of dealers, but they're just big enough to be annoying to work with. If you've got competing dealers like you were talking about, I bet it can be kind of fun to make them squirm by going elsewhere. I don't have that luxury!
