Hid Projector Or?

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a 08 Yukon XL Denali. What a great truck! I am thinking up upgrading the headlights to HID. From some stuff I read, it seems HID work better in projector style housings vs. reflector style.

1- What is the 07 -08 Yukon Denali; Projector or Reflector?

2- There is an abundance of choices, from $75 ebay kits, to $400 kits. Why would you recommend some, and not others?

3- If I go with bulbs, how are the silverstars? Anything better?

Thanks!

Deffinatley go with an HID kit. I ordered 2 plug and play kits from ebay that were $88.00 a piece shipped and are great quality and perform excellent. I got the 12000K (purple) bulb which I recommend against becuase they look terrible so I just ordered a 6000K (white with hint of blue) bulb which should look much better. Also the headlight is a reflector not a projector and if you go with halogens i'd get something by PIAA

a 4500k to 5000k is more white then a 6000k kit ....

its really up to you ... on what you want to do .. most options are 'illegal' either way ...

it is hard to get stock bulbs that are actually 'better' then the OEM replacements ... some of the bulbs that are out there, change the coloring ... which in it's self can appear brighter ... but the bulb it's self is not brighter then stock ...

when i am looking for replacement bulbs one of the main things i try to avoid .. is buying a bulb that has some sort of 'coating' on the bulb it's self .. if the glass isn't clear ... i don't want it ...

to bad there isnt a place near me that sells the osram silver stars (different from the sylvania silver stars)

Silverstars are a definite improvement over the stock bulbs...

Which HID kit did you get? Two kits? Why? How do they work?

Thanks,

Todd

I got the kits that are sold by a ebay seller named japanimportshop, not a vehicle specific one just a plug and play. I got two kits becuase on for my Sierra and one for my dads Denali. They work by just putting the bulb in the housing and plugging the bulb into the ballast (similar to an amp) , then plug the stock headlight harness into the ballast and your done. As stated above alot of the kits are illegal becuase they are not DOT. But i've been driving around with purple headlights (sadly :ninja: ) for the past couple weeks and have passed many cops with no problems mainly becuase the majority of police are not properly equipped to test your lights to see if they are with in limits.

Does anyone have a link to one of the kits? I cant find it for some reason.

Give this link a try: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZjapanimportshop

I love the truck, but I have a bit of a night vision problem, and need to have something a bit brighter, especially on the road itself. I might give these a try, as the price is right.

Hope this helps

Yesterday I picked up an 08 Yukon Denali and was disappointed to not find HID on a vehicle in this class. My wife's envoy has them and hers was almost 10K less. Shame on GM, you should have the option on a high end vehicle IMO.

I read online with HID companies that HIDs have been engineered to place the arc in the exact same spot as the filament that is in the regular headlights using the correct beam pattern off the OEM reflector......

Go with the HID kit. I've heard of many people that have the cheap ebay kits, all with no problems. I've got two of the cheap ebay kits, one on my truck and one in my van. Both work awesome.

You'll get quite a few people on forums who will tell you that it's a bad decision, and will blind oncoming drivers, and have a horrible beam pattern. With the new HID kits, if your lights are aligned properly, you will NOT blind oncoming drivers, and the lights will keep the stock beam pattern with the HID bulbs.

The only real concern is that since they are not DOT approved, they are technically illegal. That's just something to keep in mind if you live somewhere with a bored police force...

OKKKKKKKKKKK, have the HIDs been engineered to place the arc in the exact same spot as the filament that is in the regular headlights?
