Hardwiring A Radar Detector

Recommended Posts

My last truck ('02 Sierra) I linked into the 10 amp stereo fuse and found a ground and was good to go. Unit shut off with the ignition switch.

The fuse box on the '07's doesn't have a fuse that shuts off with the ignition...

Anyone with any ideas???

I pulled the overhead console. Used my digital multi-meter and located a power lead that was only active with the ignition "on". Also located a lead that was ground. Tapped into both leads, and used a 1 amp inline fuse on the power lead. Picked up a female jack at Radio Shack and drilled a mounting hole in the overhead console, mounted the female jack and wired it in. I then used a hardwire lead from Beltronics, cut it to length, picked up a mating male jack from Radio Shack, and wired it in to the lead. Clipped the detector to the visor, plugged the male jack from the wire lead into the mounted female jack, turned the key, and whala! - detector cycled on. When I turn the key "off", the radar detector shuts off. No long dangling cords, easily removed from the vehicle when I want, and sits up high and out of sight.

From the mirror is ok,but my detector is on the top of the dash, next to the drivers side window. Today I popped up the front section of the dash(left front by the windshield)and found a plug with a wire thats switched with the key on. I just stuck the end of a wire in the plug and zip tied it and ran it to the detector. works fine. Hope this helps

Just to the left of the brake pedal-pop off the plastic cover. You will find a post on the board that you can put a spade on.

I do, I'm pretty satisfied with it very good range and not too many false alarms but remember if your detector doesn't pick up false alarms then it's probably not working to well. When I buy another detector it'll be another 8500 X50B or a V1

OH and X3 on the Invisicord!!!
