Hey guys, I have been trying to add the VIN Cards to the wiki for about a month now, but the problem is I cannot reduce the PDF file size to under 1 MB. Does anybody know how to reduce the file size to under 1MB (original file size is 2MB). Thanks..

Hey Mike,

 

Don't know how to shrink them but another solution might be to link to an offsite page and store the PDF files there. I could probably donate a page of space somewhere for the good of the group if that works for you.

 

ALSO... I have quite a few GM Truck/Suv Full Owner's manuals in PDF form if you would like to use them. They vary from 2.5 ro 27 meg though so we would have to store them remotely.

Yeah I would like that, as it stands, I need all the help I can get. One guy said that photoshop CS3 could reduce the file size, but I ain't paying $1500 just to do this...........

Could I use photobucket at all? I have a premium account which allows up to 5MB attachments......if not, I guess I can also print everyone of them out and rescan them into the computer and use Photoshop CS2 to make the modifications.......what do you think Jim?

I have CS3. Let me go play around with it this weekend and see if I can make it work. I'll be back.

 

If not, I have quite a bit of webspace. Maybe we can figure something out there if the smaller PDF thing doesn't happen.

you can use CS3 ... will need to convert the pdf into a word doc or something similiar and then reconvert to pdf ... but change the settings of your acrobat to compress for smallest file size....

I can only post the 2008 VIN CARD because GM made it small, every other year vin card is too large in size (GM's fault)

I have posted the VIN CARDS in the Tech Wiki for the years 1972-1999, the 2000 to current VIN CARDS are being worked on. Here is the direct link for them:

The VIN CARDS were converted to JPG files and then rendered so the file sizes were under a megabyte...enjoy...

Update: I will be pulling off most of the content in the Tech Wiki starting in March as I reorganize the structure of the Wiki. It has gotten too complicated and I want to simplify it. I will bump this to the top once or twice a week so that everybody will have a chance to read it and not flood me with a ton of PMs.

Update: I have begun to remove the content from the Tech Wiki. From the looks of it, I should be done with deleting stuff within a week (or so). I have decided to edit most of the information that contains copyrighted material and post it back up. It will be done in stages over the next month or so. I plan to do the bulk of the work on spring break...
