Electric Fans

I keep seeing talk about installing electric fans . . how hard is the install? how would I go about taking off the stock one etc? . . Also which ones fit?

Also what benifits are gained? . I know I would have a cooler engine but does that translate to MPG, HP, both? . . I know Im a noob at this but never really done any under-hood mods.

Thanks for the help.

Unless you live in the Desert and do extensive, heavy towing, you don't really need it and it won't give you any drastic gains.

You will feel a little bit of performance improvement and less noise along with a slight fuel economy improvement. If set up properly you will not see any change in your engine running cooler infact for fuel economy & engine life you want the temps to stay in the 195F - 210F. The LS1 Camero or Corvette C5 fans will work nicely. The wiring you will have to makeup your self with controllers for the low speed & high speed fans. Jegs has what you need.

Works for me.

Are they any quieter? . . . Im in the modding mood and am itching to do anything that would help.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Yes quieter. Plus better fuel economy, frees up some power, and frees up some space under the hood. I need to get some...

Quieter maybe but my new truck gets worse fuel economy than my old one did with the traditional fan setup. I can see where it would free up a couple of horsepower though since the fan isn't directly engine driven.

Not really worth changing over to unless you are going high performance engine building and actually need the extra cooling capacity.

And unless you get an automatic switch, you have to remember to turn the fans on. My friend didn't do that and his engine over heated. I'd love to do this mod, cause Florida is like a desert. How do you take the stock fan off?

No, Florida is not like a desert, it is more like a sauna.

Take top of shroud off and use a long open wrench on the nut at the pulley & whack it CCW smartly with a hammer.

Do not depend on a on & off switch to run your fan use a controller from Jegs with a sensor in the fins on the radiator & adjust as necessary.
