Keeps On Starting?

Hey guys, do any of you have this going on?

Every once in awhile when I start my truck, the starter stays engaged for a few seconds with the engine running.

I have reached up and turned it off, but last time I thought I would just let it go. It lasted for 4 seconds. It disengaged by itself.

It sounds awful. Like an older truck or car when it's running and you turn the key trying to start an already running engine....

The owners manual says it's an electronic start sequence...and will stop when the engine starts....?

I took it to the deler and they want me to leave it for the day so then can do a gazillon starts on it....That doesn't sound good to me!

Is there any known issues with this?

Also they say they don't know of any TSB on the noisy temp sensor draw fan. Does anyone have the TSB info on this?

That definitely does not sound normal. You are correct that it's an electronic start sequence but I've never noticed it lasting very much longer after the vehicle starts. Especially not several seconds longer.

I also would be hesitant to leave my vehicle there for "testing" but not sure that you have much of a choice unless you can figure out what triggers it. So if it's only in cold weather, or when the truck sits overnight or whatever. Then at least you can predict when it will or won't happen.

Mine does not do it though, at least not yet. Only have 5k miles on it.

So far, I have not had this happen with mine. I normally turn the key just enough to kick off the start sequence, release pressure on the key, and let the truck do the rest. I am glad that it also knows to NOT engage the starter, if the truck is already running. There has been a time or two that I've gotten in, after remote starting the truck, and turned the key out of habit. The truck just kept on running and the started didn't try to engage. I thought that was a nice feature, after I quit chiding myself for doing something stupid, like trying to start the truck while it was already running!

OK...Thanks guys.

It did it again today after it had been running for awhile. I turned it off, went inside for 10 mins came out and started it and it did it. I just let it go. It seems like the engine is not running when it does it so maybe it's just going to do it trying to start.

The owners manual says the starter is computer controled and that it might stay engaged for a few seconds???? So that's what it's doing. I guess that's normal per the manual.....

I think I'm still going to let them look at it.

I would sure be happy if it would do it for them. Maybe it's a software issue or something....?

I think I'm going to use a video camera for the next few starts that way if it does it, they could see it over and over...LOL

If it's doing it at on a fairly consistent basis, I'd definitely say take the truck in as soon as possible. Worst case scenario is you get the dreaded, "Sorry, but we couldn't replicate the problem" response

Yea..They told me they would need it for the day.

I asked to do what? I just told you what it's doing.

He said " Yea, we want to start it a bunch of times to see if we can get it to do it.......???????

I don't think so.....

I'd rather film my starts everyday to try to get it so I can e-mail it to them when it does it, than letting them doing a gazillon starts.

Whether you film it or not, im pretty sure their process wont change if you take it in. They will still do the "gazillion" starts.

never happened to me even cranking in 5 degree weather. Have them re-program that part of the computer since its computer controlled.

Are there fuzes involved? If so, try swapping them out and see what happens. I don't know if hooking this up to the computer would send out a code.

Also -- your signature says you have Fire Red paint. It is still called Victory Red for the 08 model.

If I'm not mistaken, GMC does call their paint "Fire Red".

What ever happened with your starting issue? I'm experiencing the same thing in cold weather with my truck.

Sorry guys I thought I had posted the results of my starting issue. I'm getting slow in my old age..... Here's the story.

Well, after getting up at O dark 30 on Tuesday morning to be at the dealership at 0700 and spending 3 hrs in the waiting area drinking lot's of coffee, waiting for the tech to get my truck. He reads the paper work and says "OH YEA there's a Bulletin for this issue".

Why they could not have told me that when I first brought this to their attention last week is beyond me....?

They say condition normal. No Further action required at this time. They didn't even start it. Even if they did, with my luck it would not do it.

So here is the Bulletin # Document ID#2001730 it explains it all, and is just what I have going on. It's a PCM/ECM thing....It has control over the start secquence and it waits for the fuel pump signal.....Yada Yada Yada.....

They say normal....But it's happening a lot. I guess I'll just let it go and see how long it can take it.......LOL

Sorry I have no way of putting the bulletin on here for y'all to see. Maybe someone that has access to the Bulletin's could do that for all to see?

So...They say normal. Good enough for me! I really hate it when it does it though. It sounds awful.......LOL

Also...on the paint deal. Our Hummer says Victory Red. I think the Chevy reads the same. However GMC says it's Red Fire. It's all the same color. Crazy stuff...Right?
