2008 2500 Silverado Z71

Ok today I pulled into the dealership just to look. The 2500 edition is now on my radar and you fellas know I like the Z71 edition. Can I actually afford stepping up to the bigger rig?

The price tags all looked to be in the 51K range. Only owing 18K on my truck at 3.9% makes that jump look somewhat insane. But my god those trucks are gorgeous and they are much bigger!

Maybe what I need to think about is just the 2500 model without all the bells and whistles. Many of you have said all that can be added later anyhow. Who has a nice 2500 and what did you pay?

I am sure they are nice, but do you really have need for a 2500, other than the fact that they look nice? I might stop by the dealership here to take a look as well.

51K?????????????????????????????????????! :D

btw, I would wait for the '09's because I believe the '07-08 2500's are still the previous generation gmt800 frames.

Although the price tag is high -- it is by far the best looking truck I have seen in many years! I'm not sure if the frame change would be that big of a difference. Would need to learn more about that to begin with before I could even say one way or the other...

If you have not seen the 2008's -- pull in and just check them out! Wow are they gorgeous!

I would have to say they look ok, but they need more wheel and tire. That hood doesn't look so hot to me. And its a big heavy truck. Stepping up from say a 1500 to a 2500 is a large step, especially the hit in MPG, the loss of engine power if you don't get the diesel. If you do get the diesel the cost to own it is out of this world especially for an Oil Change.

If you dont do any heavy hauling and dont need the stiffer frame, leaf springs, and the stout diesel then avoid it at all cost. The ride is far more rougher than a 1500, and the loss of power is too great when choosing the gas engine.

With the new 1500 being able to haul 8000+ LBS and the gas engines being the largest ever it is really a no brainer, you can haul your boat, and a small camper, sure you can't haul a 14,000 Fifth Wheel, but that is when you buy the 2500 cause you actually have a reason, not cause it looks good. cause the 1500 and 2500 both look great. The major difference is the grill and hood. Which you can buy a better looking grill for a 1500 and you might ever be able to make the 2500 hood fit if thats what you like about the truck.

If you arent going to use it as a heavy hauler leave it on the lot for someone else to buy that is actually going to haul a large trailer, im sure they will appreciate the gesture.

I agree that its the best looking truck around. i love the looks. i really wanted one myself but couldnt justify spending the money on something my 1500 would easily do. gas mileage was another concern of mine. if i had the money however, i would buy one. heck if i had the money i would buy a diesel! no use for one, but its america, and in america, if you got the cash, u buy what you want.

if you can afford it, do it. who cares what other ppl think. if u go down that road, you will find you miss out a lot on life. better you buy what you want, than regretting it.

Maybe you should stop looking for now. The price of fuel is going to skyrocket in the spring. $ 3.50/gallon of regular is already predicted. We are heading into a serious recession. Just look at the dismal stock market performance this year. And we have seen only the tip of the iceberg. Those $ 51k trucks will be offered at huge discounts about a year from now. My prediction.

Its not much different in MPG and especially engine power, you dont need the diesel, the 6.0 engine is a friggin beast(its rated at 353 hp compared to the 5.3, 315hp) and MPG wise isnt too far off from the 5.3 that comes in the 1/2 tons. To the original guy, get that beautful, big GM MACHINE!!!!!!!!!!!

You act like that's a bad thing. In my experience so far everything int he gmt900 truck is lighter, cheaper, and weaker than the previous generation.

If I could turn back time 3 months I would have bought a 07 Classic even if I had to pay several thousand dollars extra than the pop can of the new body style. I mean you think the older trucks the bed side wavers and the bed rail bows if you sit on it in the bed? NO.

My guess is in the future those who want a truck to perform what a truck has traditionally done will have to move up to a 3/4 ton or 1 ton that are exempt from light truck fuel mileage regulations. It's all about weight and fuel mileage now. Thats why the new trucks are made like coke cans.

Sadly I've owned a 1/2 ton for the last 20+ years but I think we're going to have to jump up to 3/4 or more to get what we used to get in the 1/2 ton..and the 1/2 ton will be the SUV type vehicle. Sad but true nowdays. All about fuel regulation and the weight to go with it.

Wow, see I've never actually looked at a GMT900 in person closely yet or drove one. From what I've heard it drives very car like, that must be why. Honestly, as much has I really like the new GMC sierras I couldn't justify buying one when I only have a few grand left on my loan for this truck. I plan on keeping this thing and putting money back into it I need it around for a long time.
