Center Armrest/console Problem

I have a 2000 Silverado with tan cloth interior 55/45 split bench fron seat. I've been avoiding/dealing with this problem for about two+ years. The center console (the only interior storage) is stuck closed. I can slide the latch with a screw driver so I know nothing is lifting the lid to prevent it from opening. It takes several minutes whenever I want to open it and it is a pain to do. Does anyone have any repair advise, or does anyone know of a decent aftermarket console I may like better.

I just ran across this in a google search (it's the first page in the document). It looks like it just needs some dry lube sprayed in the latch. Mine's been acting up lately so I'll try it out and report back.

mine's stuck too. but a good punch will get her right open.. in the spring i'm gona tear it down and put a new latch on it! good luck!

One squirt of a dry lubricant (I found a can of teflon-based stuff at Lowe's) and it works great!
