Gas Guage Reads Wrong

We have an 05 Trailblazer LT I6 4200 auto. Problem is when we fuel up the gas guage goes down to empty instead of towards full. stays on empty for quite some time before reading proper. Keep in mind it was reading right before pumping. Also seems to be hard on fuel now. Runs great with no apparent problems. starts, idles, goes down the road with no bucking or hesitations anywhere in the rpm range. no smoking either. I always keep the oil changed, air filter clean and proper air pressure in tires. I have heard of possibly bad ground. can anyone verify whats wrong with our buggy. Thank you for any help.

Could be a bad ground or the sender is going bad. You'll have to drop the tank to check.

Thank you for your reply sir...I was afraid of that, but kinda expected it too. I like your sig too by the way, and if I may comment, its not just the chinese...Its Time we closed the doors to the country and learned how to take care of ourselves and leave the rest of the world alone....DEPORT DEPORT DEPORT before its too late

I too am having similar problems (erratic fuel gauge) with my 2003 Sonoma I just purchased from a used car lot. I have had the sending unit wiring checked and the fuel sending unit in the tank has been replaced. The problem persists. I understand there is a TSB (Document ID# 2037454, Subject: Special Coverage Adjustment-Instrument Panel Cluster Gauge Needle Functions #07187A - (11/08/2007) that addresses a similar problem with full size trucks and SUV's. Apparently GM will perform a sweep test and if the Cluster is toast, they will replace it, no charge. Anyone know if there is a TSB to check and repair this problem for 2003 Sonomas?

 

If this has been addressed in another thread, I apologize. Just point me in the right direction.
