Rear Window Defrost Button

I have a 2000 Chev extended cab 4x4 silverdo pickup truck that has a rear window defroster with side rear view mirror defrost. What happens is that the rear window defrost button will come on on its own and when this happens you cannot control any of the temp or area controls. This seems to happen in unison when the auto headlights come on. You can get the controls to work again by turning the truck off and the turn it back on and then usually the controls work properly. The GM dealer has not heard of this problem but I know of an individual who has a 2000 GMC truck who has had the same problem but has not happened as often as my truck. Thanks Dave

i just got my 2000 gmc and havent had issues with the defog that i know about but if you turn the heat to hot it often wont turn down unless you turn the fan off for a minute or two, the mirrors say heated but i dont know how to turn them on. a local auto wrecker told me i could try a used heater control he has ,to see if it will fix my problem maybe one near you will let you try that.if you buy new theres no returns on electrical parts and it might not fix the problem.i also have a display on the rear view mirror i can get the display to show z1to15 but dont know what that does, the stereo also has a dial behind the power/volume button that says scv or something i dont know what that is
