Mobile One Or Regular Oil In My Nbs Silverado?

Recommended Posts

I am coming up to my 1st oil change which I always do at 1000 miles

in my NBS Silverado 5.3 Flex Fuel.

I am considering putting Mobile one in as I do in my C6 Corvette.

Then I only change the oil every 5000 miles, Yes it is a $57 oil change as opposed to a $25.00

at my dealer.

I've heard you're supposed to leave conventional oil in the engine during the break-in period, then after that, switch to synthetic. I'm not sure of the exact mileage, but I'm sure someone else will chime in on this one.

Use dino, change at 5k miles and you're good to go. Synthetic is way over priced for marginal benefit, IMO.

Your gonna hear people tell you dino is the best way to go, especially with a new truck, then others will tell you its fine to run synthetic. Im not an oil expert but i really dont think it matters. Run whatever your comfortable with.

I'm running Mobil 1 in my GMT900 (since 1000 miles) and would do it again in a heartbeat... but I agree that it's really just keeping it changed regularly that is the key. Synthetic or Dino doesn't REALLY matter. If properly maintained the engine will outlast the truck either way.

I used to be a dino Valvoline only kind of guy. It's something I inherited from my Dad, kind of like being a Republican. But now I've been following the advice of a co-worker's father-in-law, "oil is oil". I use what I can find on sale or those that have a good rebate. Lately, it's fairly easy to find some synthetic oils practically free after rebates (Menards, O'Reilly's, etc).

Bottom line, if using Mobile 1, makes you think you are taking better care of the engine, I say do it. The peace of mind you get will more than make up for any cost differential.

I use conventional Castrol GTX 5W30 and A/C Delco filter every 3k miles. Frequent changes are more important than fancy oils in my opinion. I have been using Castrol for years. My Mazda 626 V6 has 186k miles, oil change done every 3k miles with Mazda OEM oil filters only. Not a trace of sludge, the car's engine runs like new. The reason why I use OEM filters is because they have the anti-drain membranes which prevent oil from draining from the cylinder head when the engine is shut off.

My vote's for dino oil if you're changing every 5,000 miles. If you want to throw extra money away, you can always send it to me. Better in my pocket than the oil company's...

I'm goin' home

And when I wanna go home

I'm goin' mobile

Well, I'm gonna find a home

And we'll see how it feels

Goin' mobile

Keep me movin'

I can pull up by the curb

I can make it on the road

Goin' mobile

I can stop in any street

And talk with people that we meet

Goin' mobile

Keep me movin'

Out in the woods

Or in the city

It's all the same to me

When I'm drivin' free, the world's my home

When I'm mobile

Hee, hoo!

beep beep!

Play the tape machine

Make the toast and tea

When I'm mobile

Well I can lay in bed

With only highway ahead

When I'm mobile

Keep me movin'

Keep me movin'

Over 50

Keep me groovin'

Just a hippie gypsy

Come on move now

Movin'

Keep me movin', yeah

Keep me movin', groovin', groovin', yeah

Movin', Yeah

Mobile, mobile, mobile, mobile, ...

I don't care about pollution

I'm an air-conditioned gypsy

That's my solution

Watch the police and the tax man miss me

I'm mobile

Oooooh, yeah, hee!

Mobile, mobile, mobile yeah

Gotta love the WHO!!!

I agree, if you are going to chaneg at 5k, not worried about gas mileage, nor going to follow the DIC, use dino oil cause you will be wasting money.

Im going to be using the DIC to the limit. I want to see what the oil will look like by then while the truck is under warranty. Then i will make a decision. I will be doing all my own maintainance as i am a tech by trade and get parts at cost through our network of dealers.
