Driver Information Center, Tahoe 03

Hi.

On my Tahoe 2003 5,3L, the Driver Information Center (driving computer) is living it's own life. It's changing the language settings when it feels like it, it's re-setting the trip counters when driving and dosen't always respond to the buttons on the steering wheel. When setting the driving center to the instant fuel usage option, it suddenly jumps back to odometer or a re-set trip counter. Lately I have observed that the driver information display is on after the engine and ignition are turned off. At this time the dispaly is alternating between the hourmeter, odometer and a strange message like: OP-DL 5462 CAL, AC (something like that, didn't rembemer exatcly), and then goes black before it start the same again. I think this is going on all the time when the car is not running (and probaly eating my battery)

On an onther forum it has been suggested that this could be realted to a grounding issue, either to the frame or negative battery.

Any ideas to what this could be? My Norwegian dealer have no idea what this could be and they can't find anything wrong.

Thanks for your help

Regards Truls

You said it all when you said 2003 - It's a bad cluster and will be "good will" repaired by a GM dealership. Contact them and have them look up a TSB for this. Even European dealers should know about this.

Thanks for this answer. I'll tell this to my dealer. I have searched several TSB's and have found issues regarding gauges not working because of the cluster but not the driving computer. Have you seen a TSB describing my issue?, an if you have, where can I find it?

Thanks for helping me out. The US Car community in Norway is rather small due to very high governmental taxes on cars with large engines and high weight on the car, so it is very nice for the enthusiasts here in Norway to ask questions in an US forum :tear: .

I recently bought an 03 suburban and I noticed that the DIC is not responding to the steering wheel buttons. My OD works, trip OD works, hour meter works, and it responds when I change Driver memory position. It just wont respond to any of the steering wheel controls (can't access fuel economy, oil life, etc.) I read somewhere that there is a fuse hidden somewhere behind the instrument cluster (?). I appreciate any feedback. Thanks!
