Motor Silk?

Our (CARQUEST) Vehicle fleet is huge and if I remember is approx # 15 in the US as far as #of vehicles. Our Corp fleet mgr has done a ton of research and is convinced the use of Motor Silk in every vehicle will provide some tremendouls savings in fuel economy. From what I understand, the savings per vehicle is minimum but when you consider the min $s saved times thousands of vehicles, it supposedly makes a tremendous difference.

The odd thing is we have not even added the product to our stores to sell it. We are simply treating every vehicle we have with it. I really do not believe in these chemical wonder drugs but was curious if anyone has ever used this stuff. They do have a nice looking website with tons of info in it. Motor Silk

The name "Motor Silk" alone conjures up images of late late night infomercials. Being the skeptic that I am I'll be the first to say it is probably smoke and mirrors... VERY EXPENSIVE smoke and mirrors.

That said.. I DID see an increase of 4/10 MPG when I switched my company car over to synthetic oil at 80K. Not much but over the life of a vehicle it could add up. I drive about 350 miles per day Monday through Thursday so I have a good database of before and after numbers. I was surprised.

I think if "Motor Silk" was a really viable product that can match its claims, it would be well known in the automotive enthusiast world.

I still cannot believe our fleet mgr has taken this path. I have not talked with him personaly but I understand he used another large fleet's records who was using Motor Silk.

I drive about 50K a year and like you have very good MPG records. I use Lucas Upper Cyl Lube in every tank at the rate of 3 ozs per 10 gallons. It has been a long time since I did not use it but the increase is better than .5 MPG in my Caravan. I think it was more like .8 but I cannot remember. Of course, if you had to buy it at retail price, the MPG increase would not offset the cost. It is also not real convenient to use because you have to keep it with you at all times.

Well, I don't mind being proven wrong. If somebody has some credible info on the stuff, I am all ears!

I did notice ont he bottle today that it was produced on 8/07/07 and it says not to use it after 8/08/08. It has a shelf life for whatever that is worth.

I have been told to put it in my van at the next oil change and because I have very good MPG records, we will see what this stuff does.

No, No, No, it is not going into my Yuk XL. Nothing but pure Amsoil in there for me.
