Chevy 2500 Vs 3500

In the market to purchase a new Chevy truck for the family construction business. I am trying to determine the pros and cons of buying a 3/4 ton vs. a 1 ton. Either truck will have the 6.0 and single wheel rear axle (on the 3500) crew cab with long bed. Is there a large difference in ride comfort or gas milage using same motor? My father and I are at arms over it. I don't believe there will be a large difference and he disagrees. He believes it will be an uncomfortable ride and bad/worse gas milage. Any info would be appreciated.

I currently have a 2500HD and have rode in 3500 duallys and SRW and there was not alot of difference that I could tell. They also seemed to have about the same gas(SRW) mileage. But I also think that my 2500HD does NOT ride rough, a little stiff but not bad at all. But thats my 2 cents!

There won't be much difference in ride or mileage, the 3500HD is basically the same as the 2500HD but with more payload capacity. If you are going to go with a long bed anyway, might as well get the 3500HD. My dad has an '05 Dually, and I think it rides better then a shorter wheelbase 2500HD that a friend owns. Because there is only 250 lbs difference between the two the mileage should be the same.

My dads 1999 3500 RCLB rides horrible compared to a 2500. Running over a penny feels like a speed bump. I am sure it gets better with heavy loads, but empty it's pretty bad.
