Dumbed Down Dic

Although I'm generally pleased with my 2008 LTZ 3500HD over my 2003 LT 2500HD, I'm greatly disappointed with the DIC.

At least 8 features were stripped out, and just one added. The "addition" was to put the tranny temp gauge into the DIC, replacing the previous gauge on the dash, in effect a net LOSS even for that function.

Then to add insult to injury, they moved the DIC control off the steering wheel to an inconvenient spot on the dash.

Yes, I'm very disappointed in DIC in wife's new Denali -- are you listening GM!!!

Love the fact that I can watch instant economy on my truck as I drive down the road.

Of course some idiot probably was watching that instead of road, then hit someone/thing, then sued GM for putting that feature in their truck (hello, personal responsibility!!!).

GM: Bring back the fully functional DIC!!!!! PLease.

What all is missing? I guess I am just ignorant of what they used to have but mine seems pretty informative.

Funny how you never know what you're missing until it gets pointed out! Now I wanna know!

Search for DIC on 2004 trucks. Mine can show the following (and I'm sure I'm missing something from this list)

- standard stuff like odometer, hour meter, oil life remaining

- instant economy (i really like this...up hills = 3-4 MPG, down hills / coasting, 45-50 MPG. Interesting to watch as I drive)

- miles remaining on this tank of fuel

- current MPG for this tank of fuel

- gallons of fuel consumed

Oh, that's all I can remember for how. Someone help me finish this list...

That's odd. My Sierra Denali has most of those, but not the instant fual economy. For some silly reason, GM seems to only have the instant fuel economy activated on engines that have AFM. Why they don't give you access to that info is beyond me. You know it's in the computer. So, let me see it!

I agree with this totally!

I use my DIC more than I use the cruise control. Why not put the cruise control switches back on the turn-signal stalk like it was for years on GM vehicles :bs:

And while I'm at it......the headlight hi-beam switch....why do they now make you push the lever forward to turn them on,and then pull it back to turn them off, instead of the old way of pulling it back to turn the hi-beams on & off?

Yes, I'm with you there. Blame the Japanese for that, that's the way all their vehicles are, just like the different style electric window switches. After 2002, everything went to the Japaneses style. I'm used to it now but when I get in my wife '98 Buick everythings back to the old style switches. :bs:

Between my 2003 LT D/A 2500HD and my 2008 LTZ D/A 3500HD the following DIC functions disappeared:

"Instant" MPG

"Annual Miles" odometer

"Business" odometer

"Business" fuel consumed

"Business" MPG

"Personal" odometer

"Personal" fuel consumed

"Personal" MPG

Maybe some other stuff I can't think of right now.

My '05 doesn't have any of those options either... so they (GM) eliminated those things several years ago...

my dic has all of these features plus some, I do agree about the location though

No instant economy here, pretty sure that went away sometime around the '05 MY trucks. I like the DIC, it's quite handy. The best feature is the tire pressure for each of the tires. If they got rid of all that other extra stuff (like how crappy my mileage is) and just kept the tire pressure monitor info, I'd still be very happy. :)

I heard about that loss of features. Weird usually its the other way around, the newer it be the more features. I wish I had the instant fuelk economy thing though that looks pretty cool. Most C6 Corvettes have it now
