Engine Oil Preference

Now I have a truck I can get excited about I want to play more attention to maintence and keep it running good. I have a '03 2500HD with 8.1L V8 and Allison tranny.

 

Question is what type and brand of engine oil do you guys recommend? How hard is it to change the engine oil and filter on this truck and engine?

I use M1 5W40 Truck & Suv Oil and Amsoil Synthetic Filters. If it's a 4WD, then the oil filter is a PIA to get off. I use a baggy to slip up over the filter and remove it so that the oil doesn't drip onto the front driveshaft universal.

Oil and filter choice is like socks and underwear and toothpaste ... no right or wrongs just personal preference.

 

Me?

Castrol GTX and Wally World filters.

I change oil/filter about every 5000 miles.

I use Mobil1 5W-30 synthetic in my truck,And conventional Pennzoil 5W-30 in my cars.

One of the few things that people here will agree on is to stay away from Fram oil filters.

 

Everyone has there own preference if you want to learn more than you ever wanted to know about oil check out www.bobistheoilguy.com.

 

If you pick an oil that meets the standards set by GM you'll be fine. I don't think you can go wrong.

 

I personally use penzoil platinum with AC Delco filters.

 

Engine oils are like a$$holes all people use them, they are all get dirty, but everyone prefers their own.

I'll stay clear of Fram oil filters. I have heard their (Fram) air filters are questionable too right?

 

I've never heard a single bad comment about Fram Air Filters. Just their bottom rung, standard line of oil filters.
