Dual Exhaust Into One

2 years ago I decided to put duals on my wifes 99 GMC suburban (5.7L), and all she did was complain. All the muffler shop did was cut the stock muffler out, and replaced it with a flow master 50 series with dual in dual out, common chamber, and added pipe and tips out the side at 45*.

My questions are

If I remove one of the sides, and weld a blank off plate over it, will there be and adverse effects?

Will it quiet down?

Will it make gas mileage increase

Thanks in advance. I searched this out with no luck.

You'll increase back pressure but probably not enough to hurt anything. Flowmasters pretty much flow from any direction. Don't think the noise level will change much though. I'd hunt a Dynomax or Magnaflow muffler to replace the Flowmaster with. They have a much quieter tone with a nice little rumble. I bet she would like it.

I swapped my Magnaflows for Flowmaster just cause i like the sound.

My Camaro though Magnaflow FTW!

Theve got about 4000 miles on em if your interested.

I am located in Maine. 04250

The Magnaflow will be more quiet? Is it a single out or dual? At this point I almost just want it back to stock. I am tired of the my wifes complaints. PM me and maybe we can work a deal.

Suburbans are bad about resonating inside with aftermarket exhaust. You have to be really careful not to make it overbearing. Might sound good for a week or two but it gets annoying after a while. Think I may just have to side with your wife on this one.
