Canopy Going Back To Leer

Well, I went in to my Leer dealer today to have them install some new gaskets on the side windows and to look at a leak in the rear door. What they found was the bolt that holds the hinge to the canopy was loose. When they looked further, they found the hole was drilled oversize and the lockwasher was actually embedded into the hole. When they placed a larger fender washer on the bolt and repeated the tightening process it brought out a crack in the glass just under the hinge bolt. The first thing out of the manager's mouth was "this should go back to Leer for repair - it is a mfg error that should have been caught earlier." the tech echoed that the whole canopy should be replaced - not just repaired. It is now in the hands of my dealer and Leer. I go into the dealer on Sat to have it removed. It may take up to 4 weeks to repair - longer to replace. While I am bummed, I am glad that Leer is standing behind their product - at least so far.

Years ago I had a Leer cap that had a paint issue. The paint didn't cure correctly, and it looked like there were pinholes in it. My Leer dealer was very good and Leer itself also did a fantastic job. The cap was sent back to Leer and sanded and repainted. It came back looking great and 8 years later it still looks great! (the cap is on my friends truck now).

I think Leer makes a quality product and it is unusual to run into problems like you and I had...

The dealer told me that he sends back 2-3 units a year, but that Leer will either repair or replace the cap and they usually do a good job. Too bad because they just now got the door so it fits right and works great. The crack is not all that bad - I just worry that it will break out and then it can't be fixed.
